today's admissions include: i admit that i thought vh-1's coverage of the HoF was cool. "what?!!!" many of you are probably asking "how could HE be happy about that lame coverage? of all people, rich, the keeper of the police reunion flame?" because i went into last nite's viewing knowing that it vh-1 would F it up and we, the police fans, would all be screwed. it is just the way it is. unfortunately, the music industry is run and/or dominated by people like kurt loder, who think music "news" is where madonna shops, where courtney love goes to the movies and, last but not least, where bruce springsteen vacations in europe. if you looked at the end credits, joel gallen was the show's producer: joel used to work at mtv, being the producer of several mtv award shows in the mid-90s, the common theme of all of them is that they were too busy trying to be cool, meanwhile missing opportunities that were right in front of them. anyway, to quote yes, the key to not being enraged and/or disappointed about last nite was to "shoot high, aim low". what annoyed me the most was edge's statement when inducting the clash - that the clash were the best rock band ever, qualifying STING NOT THE POLICE as doing "the white reggae thing". right. good thing that "white reggae thing" broke up when it did and allowed your "sonic folk" band to spread its wings because, if they hadn't, you guys would have finished the 80s like you started it - in the shadow of the police! i admit that, while i lead the charge to bash the selection of gwenie as inductor, i thought she did a good job. i thought she was most sincere and her love for the police was most obvious - although i didn't care for the "one of my all-time favorite bands" comment - "one of"? i would have rather they got inducted by someone who could say, like tom morello did of the clash "the police are my favorite band". but anyway, it was acceptable. i admit that i sit here today, proud of sting for the way he acted - like a band member, not someone who outgrew the band and was better/above the band. you could see that their affection/respect for one another is still there. the backstage and rehearsal banter was just hysterical! sting cannot say one thing without stewart contradicting him, and vice versa. it will never change! a riot! did you catch sting showing andy the chords of EBYT? ha! i thought it most classy for him to pull andy and stewart back onto the center of the stage and take a bow. also to acknowledge miles and kim. i admit that i also thought the "roxanne" arrangement was good. true, it was the "sting" version, but ask yourselves this: does the "sting" version feature such OUTSTANDING drum work? absolutely not!!!! stewart played the HELL out of it, showing one and how intricate he can be. of the three of them, i thought stewart came across the best musically. all in all, what with the forces working against them, i thought it came off well. i agree that vh-1 should be taken to task and hope that it will do some good. i am getting a copy of the show from vh-1 - literally (i work with someone who's wife works there). should it include the whole "set", i will let you know. but i will shoot high and aim low on that as well... long live the police, greatest band - rock or otherwise- E V E R... rich __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Atención fans en Argentina: Como diantres puede hacerse para conseguir una copia de la actuación de The Police en la ceremonia del HOF ? Lo único que pude ver fue un flash en la CNN el sábado a la noche (en inglés) donde apenas se mencionaba el tema... Hey everyone...good news...the police portion of the HOF show trimmed down to a little over 20 minutes. I didn't cut one second of their footage...just got rid of the commercials. I captured the video from my satellite, although the capture is analog via capture card and not pure digital, but still looks good. The good news is that it is only 648MB which means that I can put it onto a regular cd. I will still make up a menu, etc. and will send it to people as a SVCD. Basically, this will play on all computers and just about all standalone DVD players. As for the quality....it will be identical this way or if I burned the video file onto a dvd disc. will also try to post a low res version tonight (wmv or real player) but I do not currently have a webpage. If someone has space to post this file, please let me know and I'll send it. -Josh

Some said before that Andy seemed to be out of it and yes, he did seem like he was not all there. However, Stewart Copeland is God!!! I know ladies, he does not look like Sting but for 3 songs to have broken his snare head, thats passion! Stewart was there 10000000%. As a drummer, bassist, and guitar player for over 15 years; Stewart, tonight, has inspired me to keep on going for 100 more years. God bless Stewart Copeland. Goodnight from the Police fans. PS it is total crap that Message got cut as it IS the drummers song

Hey guys! I am getting so psyched about the show. I'm hoping to get lucky & have a friend of Jeff's record the show (he has Dish Network). Nonetheless, the suspense is driving me crazy. Hopefully I'll get to see it in a few short days. I'm looking forward to the impressions of everyone who will get to see it tonight. Please write VH1 to Voice complaints

Hey-- As you all are like me, I am unhappy with the un-airing of "Message in a Bottle." So I've come up with a plan: Below is an e-mail address to customer service of VH1. I say we plague their inbox with comlaints about the editing of the Police moment. Say what you want in the e-mail, but please voice an opinion. Below also is my letter to Vh1. Please join me in this "petition" to hopefully get the fully uncut version on the air. Thanks. By the way, Roxanne was money...! Please send complaints to: help(a)vh1mail.com Here is the letter I worte: "I thought we learned our lesson when CBS cut off Frank Sinatra's acceptance speech during his Life Time Achievement moment on TV to never cut artists' performances short. I am very disappointed with vh1's decision to not air "Message in a Bottle" during the Police's segment of the 2003 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony. You have let down many fans and you have not fulfilled your duty to broadcast the ceremony. When a football game runs over, the network is obligated to show the whole game. If you're going to tape the show...then show the whole the show. It's as if a pizza was ordered and only delivered it us without the crust. The Police reunion is one of the biggest anticipated moments in music history and you deprived the public of sharing that moment. Again, I am displeased with this decision to edit their performance. Please either post the song on the Internet or rebroadcast the show unedited. Don't you believe in the non-censored performance of music? You have censored us in a true music moment. Please rectify this situation. I look forward to watching re-broadcasted unedited version of the whole 2003 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony. -Eric Krausse

I miss that Stewart Copeland!!!

Wow. After all these years of Sting "being the man in the spotlight" on his own, I forgot how much I loved seeing Stewart do his thing. He truly is an amazing drummer! After seeing this broadcast, I'm glad my memory of seeing them live is still intact. Then again, maybe it was just because it was on TV and it seemed they were totally Sting versions. Sad that they didn't show all 4 songs? YES. Sad that I didn't go? No. I was regretting it after reading all the wonderful exploits of the dedicated that went last week, but now I feel I made the right decision for me. Kind of like seeing a loved one in a casket--- I'd rather remember them how they were when you knew them and loved them best. Just my little 'ole opinion and I'm sticking to it. The show was great closure for me as far as seeing them together again. Stewart is a god! Thought I'd never change my tune on my fav in the group, but oops, I may just have! M

One word: Devastating. In a good way cause we haven't seem them together in so long and they still rock! In a bad way cause of the missing message and it is clear that this is the last. People who know people should find a way to get that footage released - Soon. I need to hear it. :) KIM

Have to agree, even tho my heart will always belong to Sting, Stewart was absolutely amazing!! And he looked great!! Sting was as lovely as ever, and as pissy as ever, but that's just Sting, nothing new there! Andy *did* look out of it -- is he in okay health? I seem to recall VH-1 making "videos" out of cuts from previous shows -- maybe they'll do the same for Message, in an attempt to get people to actually tune in to VH-1. (Sorry, but since VH-1 and MTV went to programming instead of just playing videos, they have both lost out. I really enjoy tuning in to VH-1 Classic now and then to see a lineup of videos for a change!) But I digress.... The Police together again were a joy to behold! Holly
