Sting concert

Thanks for the write up on the Sting concert in Cleveland. I am going to an Amex Show Sat night in Newark and wonder if it will be similar. Its weird how you have no idea going in what these will be like and there is no publicity etc. Also the Newark show is at a NHL hockey arena so its a pretty big place. I wonder if they have the top level curtained off or something. Will be interesting to see - now more excited about it after your email. David L.

Hi everyone, I have a story to tell! A friend of ours who travels all over the country setting up and/or breaking down offices recently reached a milestone with her American Express card, 25,000 miles or something, so they sent her a pair of complimentary concert tickets. As she was scheduled to be in Boston on the night of the concert, she offered the tickets to me and my husband. So, like any normal people would do, we moved all his patients to another day and booked it to Cleveland! The concert was at a fabulous restored theatre in the downtown theater district that seats about 1,000. The lobby goes on forever, and on this night, American Express had set up a buffet and open bar -- all free! -- about the length of a football field! We had no idea there was anything like this till we got to the theater! Many of the other concertgoers didn't know either, and it was an incredible spead and a huge surprise! As we walked in, someone snapped our picture, and then someone else came up and posed us for a picture. She said she would send it to our computer, so I gave her my friend's e-mail address! The concert was, of course, Sting. He was joined onstage by Jo Lawry, from the Symphonicities tour, Dominic Miller, of course, and (wait for it....) David Sancious on keyboards and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums!!!!!! They played for 2 solid hours, including the THREE encores, and they sounded incredible!! The set included Hounds of Winter (a very pleasant surprise), Synchronicity II, When the World is Running Down, Shape of My Heart, King of Pain, Every Little Thing, Seven Days (another pleasant surprise!), Englishman in New York, When We Dance, I Hung My Head, I'm So Happy, and I'll probably remember more later. David had an incredible solo and so did Dominic, and I can't say enough about the musicianship and the voice of our hero -- he was just great! Hit all the notes and then some! I know I'm prejudiced because I'm an unabashed fan, but I have to say that the concert was probably the best of the 5 (blush) I've seen! [Just remembered another one -- Desert Rose. Oh, and Next to You, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Set Them Free, and of course, Roxanne.] Anyway, it was an amazing experience, well worth a trip to Cleveland. Even the weather cooperated -- it's Feb 17th, and it was 60 degrees in Cleveland today!! It was also supposed to rain -- not a drop! I'm a very happy camper. Have a great weekend, everyone! Holly

I was randomly listening to this documentary on a guys quest to reunite the Kinks... and lo and behold he mentions how he is able to get Sting to comment. He says how many many musicians turned him down but Sting was kind enough to be interviewed and even sings a couple Kinks tunes and discusses his passion for the music. Fantastic stuff if you ask me. There is a podcast with Sting speaking in it for a few minutes called The Story - Reuniting the Kinks if any of you guys are interested. Seems it was done sometime last year. I havent seen (or found) the movie yet but I thought I would include a link below. Anyone else hear of this? I try to stay current in my Sting/Police stuff. Andy's and Stewart's books in Italy + How old is Sting's Fender Precision bass?

Hi everyone, I'm glad to tell Italian fans that the Italian edition of One Train Later will be published in a few days (possibly weeks), while Strange Things Happen is due out in a few months. Both books are translated by me. Speaking of Stewart's book, in a couple of places he mentions Sting's Fender Precision bass, but first he says it's a 1955 instrument, then it becomes a 1957 one. Grammy's

Just doing a little research. It seems Sting is ties for 10th for the most grammy's won in a lifetime or 6th for a solo male artist. Yes, that has been mentioned in a few of interviews that Sting has done recently...hopefully Sting fares better with the Broadway critics with this one than he did with 3 Penny Opera all those years ago.
