I like the concept of a winter album of folk songs and carols - I enjoy that kind of thing, and he does handle such material very nicely. I was initially disappointed to hear about the repackaging of familiar material, but then it occurs to me that people like us, with exhaustive Police/Sting collections, are not the target audience for this thing. It'll be aimed at people who want some seasonal music but want something a little more sophisticated than yet another 'Do They Know It's A Winter Wonderland?' compilation - probably people of about Sting's generation and the next generation below, not necessarily Fans back in the day, but with a working knowledge and liking of his singles. And those two old songs will be unfamiliar to them, so they're not paying for anything twice. Looked at that way, it doesn't seem like such a bad idea. Do I wish he'd have some sort of creative renaissance and come up with an album full of new stuff? Absolutely. Then again, if he's got nothing new to offer I respect his choice to do a project like this (or indeed the lute album) that interests him and which he can make something good out of rather than turn out an album of pappy original material just-because-he-can... Hi all But is Sting due to offer new songs to us ? Many fans said that the last two albums with Kipper were not as good as expected. Now, fans say that he doesn't create... But since the Sacred love album has been released, I've seen him on stage three times for "Songs from the labyrinth", "Welcome to the voice", a Police reunion tour... he's also worked on classical versions of his tunes. He'll release a new "Sting" album in 2010. What I can see is that these last 6 years have been very busy ! And to me, Sting covering songs is still Sting... Sebastien www.listing.c4.fr

"Every Breath you Take" shows a cigarette on his guitar. While this could be for effect, I assumed it meant he smoked. Did he and does he still? Just curious.

The chances of Sting having any kind of significant hit at this point are remote, I think. The popular music world has long since moved on, and Sting is widely regarded as piffle. I have to say that I mostly agree with this sentiment. I have a few tracks from DotBT, NLTS, and Soul Cages on my iPod but they seem weaker to me in retrospect than they did when released. Chris
