Just got two tickets for Boston! My wallet is in critical condition... but I never thought I'd even have this chance. I got Section B2 with the Best Buy presale code. I've seen quite a few ball games at Fenway, but this will be my first concert there. I can't wait! Rich

Rich, I am happy you were able to buy a pair of tickets. I had my own code for Boston from Best Buy yesterday and have been online for over an hour now trying to get a pair of the most expensive in the "best available section" tickets. I started right when the tickets went on sale, the system got my information, had me wait some 12 minutes and said that there were no tickets. I tried to get less expensive tickets and the system made me wait again with no results. Tried a few times more and lost hope. Koko

Everyone- In protest against Ticketmaster sucking so much, I am going to do this: I originally was going to try to go to a bunch of shows, but I don't think that's going to work for me, financially. As a part of this original plan, I had a friend use their BestBuy membership to get me a code for the presale for the August 3rd show in NY. Since I think I will only be going to the DC show, I will offer this code to someone from the list who could use it - all I ask is that you are not a Best Buy member yourself, and that you will actually buy tickets in today's presale and use them yourself - please, no scalping. Out of fairness, and since time is short, I will have to take the first person who gets an email to me (off list, please) today. I will send you back the code, which you will be able to use in the presale, which starts at noon, EST, today. Again, I ask that this is used for tickets that you will use for yourself to enjoy the show, and that this goes to someone who would not otherwise have a chance at this presale. -Tim

The Police will kick off their first tour in 23 years in Vancouver on May 28, it was confirmed today (February 12). The three-piece revealed their plans at a press conference and mini-rehearsal at the Los Angeles venue Whisky A Go Go, just a day after performing their classic hit 'Roxanne' at the Grammy Awards. The band were in high spirits at the rehearsal, joking with one another on stage and answering questions from audience members during a brief question-and-answer session. Before taking the stage, the band exhibited a sense of humour by playing an old recording of frontman Sting saying he would have to be dubbed "certifiably insane" if The Police ever got back together. Flash forward to today, and Sting was announcing the details of the reunited band's world tour. "We had such a good time at the Grammys last night, we thought we'd dig these out of the vault and rehearse them," Sting said before the band launched into 'Message In A Bottle'. After the rapturous applause from the audience (which included Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy and Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters) died down, drummer Stewart Copeland joked, "We're supposed to be such a slick band, but we don't even have a set list. Set lists are for wimps!" Next, the band settled on 'When The World Is Running Down' and a cheeky Copeland shouted out chord changes to guitarist Andy Summers throughout the song. Sting drank tea from the stage during the Q&A portion of the conference, and candidly answered questions about the band's initial break-up. "It's a part of my life I ran away from 25 years ago," Sting said. "The nature of our arguments was all about music. We still fight, but..." "No we don't!" Summers chimed in before Sting could finish. The band played two more songs, 'I Can't Stand Losing You' and 'Roxanne', before calling it a day. "I thought they were amazing," Fall Out Boy singer Stump told NME.COM after the performance. "The Police reunion is the coolest thing that's ever happened ever," gushed the long-time fan. The Police disclosed the dates of the first leg of their North American jaunt - their first tour since 1984's 'Synchronicity'. It will start on May 28 at the GM Arena in Vancouver, the Canadian city where the band are currently rehearsing. They will then go on to play several major arenas including New York's Madison Square Garden and a headlining slot at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee on June 16. The band confirmed that they will also play dates in the UK and Europe during September and October before heading back to North America for additional dates in late October. They will then continue on to Mexico and Australia. The dates announced so far are: Vancouver GM Place (May 28) Seattle Key Arena (June 6) Denver Pepsi Center (9) Las Vegas MGM Garden Arena (15) Bonnaroo Festival (16) Phoenix US Airwaves Arena (18) Dallas American Airlines Center (26) New Orleans Arena (June 30) St Louis Scottrade Center (July 2) Toronto Air Canada Center (22) Montreal Bell Centre (25) Boston Fenway Park (28) New York Madison Square Garden (August 1,3) Additional North American concert dates in Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Edmonton, Hartford, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Tampa, San Francisco, Minneapolis/St. Paul and the Washington/Baltimore area will be announced in the next few weeks. In what is destined to be an historic run, the Police will embark on their first tour in 23 years, beginning May 28 at the GM Arena in Vancouver. As part of a tour that will play arenas and stadiums internationally through the end of the year, the band will also headline the June 16 date of the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tenn. The group just finished a press conference and live rehearsal at the Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood, Calif., and has already rocked through "Message in a Bottle," a medley of "Voices Inside My Head" and "When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around" and "Can't Stand Losing You"/"Reggatta De Blanc," which they admitted they barely remembered how to play. The Police's breakthrough hit, "Roxanne," was also performed. As expected, the tour will be produced worldwide by the Next Adventure in association with RZO Entertainment, under the direction of Arthur Fogel, president of TNA and chairman of global music for TNA parent Live Nation. "I'm thrilled to be a part of bringing the Police to their fans after so long," Fogel said at the press conference. The announcement comes in the wake of the Police's dynamic performance of "Roxanne" last night to open the Grammy Awards on CBS. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are the Police and we're back," Sting shouted as the group kicked into the song. Talk of a Police 30th anniversary tour has been rampant in the previous weeks. The plan is for the Police to tour North America through the first week of August, then play the U.K. and Europe, returning to North America in late October. The rest of the world will follow, including Mexico, South America, Japan and possibly Australia and New Zealand through the end of the year. About 80 shows are currently on the books, including 24 cities in North America. There also is the possibility that the Police will play several stadiums both in the U.S. and abroad, but as of now Fenway Park in Boston is the only confirmed stadium date. No festivals other than Bonnaroo are currently planned. Best Buy is the North American sponsor of the tour; some proceeds will benefit the aid organization Water Aid. Tickets will be scaled primarily at $225, $90 and $50. Tickets for Vancouver, Toronto (July 22) and Montreal (July 25) will go on sale Feb. 17. Other markets, including Boston and New York (Aug. 1 and 3), will go on sale Feb. 20. Ticketmaster will orchestrate a pre-sale through a newly created Police tour Web site a few days prior to the general public onsales. It is highly likely that the Police will be the top-grossing tour of 2007. Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland split in 1984 amid internal tensions following the release of their most successful album, "Synchronicity," although they regrouped for a handful of concerts in 1986 before breaking up for good. "I woke up one morning, it was about three months ago," he recalled. "This light bulb went off in my head: I'm going to call Andy and Stewart and tell them we should do a tour. I thought, well, it will surprise them. It will surprise the world, and it's surprising me too. It's very healing. It's a part of my life I've sort of run away from for 25 years. We're still fighting. We're still arguing about the music. (But) we have ways of navigating now that we didn't have before." The Police's lone public performance prior to the Grammys was at the band's 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group also played an impromptu set at Sting's 1992 wedding to Trudie Styler. "The nature of the arguments were all about music. And also hairstyles," Sting said with a laugh. "We fought tooth and nail over the music, but as human beings, we always liked each other," Copeland added. The group was mum on details about a potential tour set list or new studio recordings, but Sting acknowledged they would not play any of his solo material. "We're going to play songs we'll never play before," he said. "We have a lot of work to do in three months." Fiction Plane, fronted by Sting's son Joe, will open the shows. Well, gang...let me begin by saying that I am still in shock over all this. For many years, we have spoke of reunion here, and while most of us pined for it, all of us probably thought it would never happen. Man, were we all off base! I have never been so happy to have been wrong in my life!!!! Here's some thoughts/impressions that I took from yesterday: * what I found most interesting was Sting's comments regarding the reunion, that he woke up one day with an "overwhelming feeling of nostalgia", and decided to reunite. I almost fell over when I heard him say that, because for AT LEAST the past decade, I have heard him tell one and all that he is not nostalgic, that he is not a fan of nostalgia, etc. * Equally fascinating was his admission that he has been "running away" from his Police past for a very long time. (I felt like I was a fly on a wall at a therapy session!) * Another "Stinger" - that the the tour will be "raw", comprising of just the 3 guys. I believe (although my recollection is not 100% certain) he also mentioned that they would play material that they have never played before (like "Voices"!) * Tour Length - sounds like it will stretch on until 2008 * New material - question asked twice, dodged twice! * A final "Stinger" - that they still "have a lot of work to do" before the tour starts in late May. I'd tend to agree with that...while Stewart and Sting are in fine form, I hate to admit it but Andy does seem to need a bit more rehearsal time. ("It's in C sharp minor, Andy!") But in his defense...he has not played these songs/this "style" for a long time, and I am sure that he will sound FANTASTIC when the tour kicks off. Wake Me Up, I Must Be Dreaming. Is this heaven? Hi all, I'm back from the rehearsal in LA. Yes, that was me going crazy in the front, Fred. I'm sure I embarassed myself more than once, but you know what? It's the Police and I don't give a damn. :) I plan to write a review tonight, so look for it. But right now I'm in a tizzy.....trying to figure out the whole ticket thing, trying to figure out what's on sale when, trying to hook up with a friend who has a BB membership, trying to join the new club, trying to figure out which dates I want to go to, trying to figure out how to earn a ton of money in the next few months, trying to remember what my name is..... Is there a link to the whole rehearsal somewhere? I'd like to watch it. I'm sorry if the answer to this is an easy one and I just haven't found it. But I literally just got on line and wanted to read the Xmission comments first. Oh, by the way, Fiction Plane is the opener for the No America shows.
