Hi there, I was told by a reliable source that Sting and the band rehearsed a mix of We'll Be Together and If You Love Somebody extensively during the soundchecks in Paris last Friday and Saturday. If Universal Music doesn't want to invest the money in transferring and releasing this stuff, then Andy and Stewart should release it on their own independently. Sting can't stop them, because even though Sting was the principal songwriter of the group, the footage is of all three of them, and, being two-thirds of The Police, Andy and Stewart outrank Sting 2 to 1 and have a right to release footage of themselves as members of The Police. And even if Andy and Stewart can't afford to transfer the Super 8 to digital, I think most of us dyed-in-the-wool Police fans would eat up this stuff and buy it even on VHS -- although a non-remastered, non-cleaned-up DVD transfer would still be a must-have. Plus, the ensuing quality would add to the classic vintage feel of the nostalgic footage. Every single band that I have seen appear on these shows "mysteriously" only received requests for the songs that were already being performed on their current tour. Therefore, they only chose to broadcast the calls that request specific songs. Kind of makes sense, I cannot see Sting taking requests for songs that he hasn't played in 20 years, and that his band has never played at all. Fuh-nee! I wouldn't be able to limit myself to one song request. Imagine asking Sting to do Be My Girl, but the Sally speaking part? How about Friends, or Mother? It would be cool to have Sting on A&E's "Live By Request," and then call up and request "On Any Other Day" or "A Sermon." Since the show is live and he would be put on the spot; might be good for a laugh. "Murder by Numbers" would be cool as well to hear. If you could command The Stinger to play any one song, what would it be? An Andy song? A Stew song? How about a really cool Sting song that he did with the Police and has not played since. Bono plans Live Aid II 13:48 AEST Mon May 31 2004 AFP - Bono, lead singer of Irish rockers U2, is planning a second Live Aid concert, 20 years after the original charity extravaganza raised 90 million euro ($A154.65 million) for famine-hit Ethiopia, a British newspaper reported. The proceeds from Live Aid 2 would go to reducing the international debt of developing nations, The Sun tabloid reported, citing British government sources. Bono, 44, is a long-time advocate for the cancellation of third world debt. U2 took part in the original 1985 Live Aid extravaganza, which was the brainchild of fellow Irish pop star Bob Geldof and was played out across television screens worldwide from concert stages in London and Philadelphia. Among the stars being lined up for the 21st century version are Robbie Williams, Oasis, Coldplay, Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Phil Collins and, of course, U2, the paper said.

Man, I would kill to see this Shea Stadium performance!! Or even the Australian one!!! Anyway, are there any chances that Sting would change his mind if we all agree to do a petition and send it to Sting.com or something like that...??? Anyway, I think we have to wait cause during his tour and SL promotion, there's no chance we get a Police DVD release... No chance to see this as a bootleg release?? Talking about Police concerts, is there anyone here able to build a list of Police shows that were filmed? And list of shows broadcasted or available in any way?? Just to see the future DVD release potential! Matt
