When the Snare Broke

I don't think anyone but Stewart would know the real answer as to when he broke the snare. Christine heard other people around us mention that he broke it during Message but both of us only noticed it during EBYT as his kit was shown to everyone on the big screens in the Hall. I don't remember them focussing on the snare at all during Message. I can say that the snare seemed to be replaced by the crew with a new one by the end of EBYT. Did they show that on VH1? We haven't seen the broadcast yet since we can't get it here in Canada. I also liked the fact that Sting intro/outro-duced Stewart and Andy at the end of EBYT as he used to during every Police concert. He did that at the rehearsal as well but didn't for the back up singers at rehearsal. Definitely a cool moment! Did they broadcast Stewart coming out from behind the drums at the end of EBYT and shouting "Andy Summers!!!" into the microphone? I thought that was funny too. i recommend that vh-1 increase the amount it charges for a commerical spot. obviously, you are not making enough. how else can you explain your insistence to flood your coverage of the 2003 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony with commericals. i single out your decision to edit (read: take out one song) the performance of the police. here, a math lesson: 0 = the amount of songs the clash performed at the ceremony, giving you ample time to show the police set in its entirety 5 min, more seconds = amount of time that passed between vh-1 going to commerical break after the performance of "roxanne" and coming back for the performance of "every breath you take", featuring the chorus-leading skills of one paul shaffer 17 years, almost 9 months = the last time the police legitmately performed together then again, the need for you to show steven tyler mug, be self important and ruin ac/dc's set, the need for you to air the gwen stefani slide show in its entirety- things such as these are MUCH more important than seeing the police reunite, esp. when everyone knows that will be the last time they perform together. great job! __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Sting guest vocal on new David Craig single

I saw this on Launch (3/17/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- British singer Craig David's next single from his sophomore album, Slicker Than Your Average, will be "Rise & Fall" featuring a guest vocal by Sting. David said that the track also includes a guitar-riff sample from Sting's 1993 song "Shape Of My Heart." "It was just amazing," David said, "kind of the way which it came about--working with Sting--because it was like I'd written the song, and I'd heard the guitar melody from 'Shape Of My Heart.' I loved it so much that I thought, 'How cool would it be to use that guitar melody' and use the top line and lyric that I'd done?'" David's sophomore Wildstar/Atlantic set was recently certified gold by the RIAA for sales of 500,000 copies. The album is the follow-up to his platinum 2001 debut, Born To Do It, which has now sold more than seven million copies worldwide. David said that he's very relieved now that his second album has been well received: "It's really nice just to kind of see me...especially having, like, a second album, and you never know how it's going to go. And for it to go gold in a place that's a million miles away from where I was first brought up is crazy, and to look around the world and see the album doing well is very flattering, so I'm real happy." Sting and David shot a video for "Rise & Fall" in London in February, and the track is expected to go to radio in May, according to a spokesperson from David's record label.

With such criticism, it's no wonder they're not going to tour. They'd never appease everyone with so many years build-up of high expectations. Yeah, I could have done without some things, like the extra singers on Every Breath...but oh well. I thought Stewart was gorgeous with passion and enthusiasim--and I've been primarily a Sting fan. I loved hearing them play together and feeling that old feeling, or something like it. I too missed Message, which makes me feel worse for not dropping everything and going. Oh, well. I'm glad for all the information from those who did go. Please put me in for a copy, if someone manages to get a hold of all the music. Thanks. stew drums and other qs

1. I'm with the camp that says its fine he broke the snare - playing with his soul. Besides that he has plays his drums tuned so tight (for the sound to more cut through) that it is probably more apt to happen. 2. Anybody able to listen to the show on the radio - the westwood one radio site states that they were to carry the HOF simulcast with VH1 - but I couldnt find it on the radio. You'd think stations would be crawling over themselves to broadcast this show?? some stations must have. 3. Someone mentioned that perhaps vh1 didnt show MIAB as they plan on releasing a DVD with 'exclusive footage'. If that is the case than in a marketing sense it is forgivable for them to not show it - but I have been checking and I cant find them releasing any of the past HOF shows on video which makes me wonder. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The case of the broken snare drum...

I seem to remember someone writing that his snare actually broke during MIAB. Did someone comment on this (Jer, Deb, Chris?) or did I just dream it up (I'm too lazy to check the archives!). This seems plausible due to the consensus that MIAB was SC's single best moment. Damn VH-1 for cutting it! Brian T.

I apologize if I offfended you but my way of thinking was that this was a one off situation; if they were going to play some shows then he could have showed off later on the way Sting goes off on a tangent on his songs. However this is it!! thanks to Sting's inflated ego. I am just like everybody else very excited to have seen the Police in action one last time
