Hello, For those of you who are fortunate enough to have heard Sting's Bethlehem Down on the Best Buy CD, can you confirm if these are the lyrics to the song that Sting sings? Also, does anyone have the lyrics for the new song that Sting wrote for the Cold Mountain soundtrack? the question is whether sting's music will ever make sense...ever.... especially this album? There you have it, folks -- The POLICE rock, not necessarily Sting in his solo act. I wonder if this is all part of the evolution of Sting? I think it was interesting that when I was opening my e-mail, I opened the one that was critical of Chris Botti's style ("elevator music" or something), and the very next one I opened was from the "Stung" mailing list, whose motto is "Reminding the world that the Police rock!" There you have it, folks -- The POLICE rock, not necessarily Sting in his solo act. When everyone stops expecting Sting to be the Police, maybe the music will make more sense. Having said that.... Sting, if you're listening, lose the overproduction. It's one thing to go soft rock instead of rock'n'roll, it's another thing to turn into Cher. And please hold your flames -- I love Sting's melodies and lyrics, I can't stand the Kipperization. Holly

Another way to get Bethlehem Down

Just wanted to let people know there is another way to get the "Sweet Tracks" at Best Buy including "Bethlehem Down" by Sting. You don't have to be a member of the frequent buyer club. I went to Best Buy tonight and put one on the counter with my other purchases, hoping to do what another list member did and "scam" a copy. (Only because I couldn't legitimately buy it.) When the teller picked it up my heart sank when she asked if I was a member of the program. I said no and ask her if I could buy it, or if there was any other way I could get it. She said they have some displayed in another area that are marked "Free Gift with a $35 purchase of CD's DVD's or video games." I was buying three CD's as Christmas presents so I was covered and got it for free. It's the same CD in the same peppermin tin, it just has a different sticker on it. I was pleasantly surprised and wanted to share it with everyone here. Surely I am not the only one still trying to finish up my Christmas shopping. (I hope!) Although, on a personal note I have an very good excuse. My husband and I are expecting our first child and we just found it it's twins! Merry Christmas! KIM

I have to agree with Maggie. Much as I like Chris Botti, I like a certain amount of inertia before the main act. But at the same time, he really shouldn't be relegated to sideman status at this point in his career (I was actually surprised someone of his stature was a band member for so long during the BND tour), and I wonder if him potentially sitting in with Sting's band during the main set was dependent on getting the opening slot as a solo act. Or maybe it was just easier to have a member of "the family" take the slot. Ooooh, I'm so cynical....

Sting.com has announced Chris Botti as the opening act for the North American shows. I'm sure many people will be thrilled, but I am disappointed. I like Chris' work, but it's sleepy time, easy listening, office appropriate music for me. Not anything I'm looking forward to. I suppose it will work well in the small theaters. But what happened to rock? It's like when Sting opened the BND shows with a Thousand Years. People who were standing up cheering and yelling their heads off when he came out slumped down in their seats and fell asleep for the next hour until Every Little Thing! Maybe I'm just trying to avoid getting old, but the bands I listen to ARE NOT of the Chris Botti variety. Maggie
