DTS CDs

Well, we finally have our sound system set up to play DTS CDs (it's been a very long and involved process with defective equipment and my husband (Twiddle Dee) and his friend (Twiddle Dum) trying unsuccessfully to "marry" our many components together). Anyway, my hubby just called me and instead of saying HI, he just played the first few notes of Walking on the Moon from the only DTS CD we own (Best Of). He says it sounds really excellent. Now, which other Sting/Police DTS CDs are available? I know this has been posted before, but of course I wasn't paying attention because it didn't matter at the time. (Hey, at least I'm honest.) And are these CDs readily available or do I have to go to outer Zimbabwe and pay in doubloons in order to buy them? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Maggie

HOF speech idea

Well, since no one immediately springs to mind to induct the Police into the HOF, here's an idea that I came up with while driving home last night: Outlandos or Sting.com should have a contest for a FAN to give the induction speech. I have a very low opinion of so-called "random drawing" contests, so I think the format should be this: interested fans submit a draft of a written speech and then those be judged. What would YOU say if you had the opportunity and honor to induct the Police??? OK, fantasy world aside, I don't think Sting.com would do it because it focuses on the Police (I agree with Josh that Sting.com acts like the Police never existed) and Outlandos has a predilection for those oh-so random drawings. But hey, it's a unique idea. They will probably get someone like Rob Thomas to do it. A nice guy, but what's his connection to the Police?? I was trying to think of the bands the Police opened for (Wayne Country, Cherry Vanilla, who else??) and none of them that I remember are big enough names. Or bands who opened for the Police (GoGo's, Fixx, UB40, ???). So unless we want Belinda Carlisle or Cy Curnin, we'd better lobby for a contest. And besides, I have my speech half written in my head anyway (it's a long drive home) :) Maggie

oscar medley

I was watching E! Entertainment news last night (I know I have no life) and they were interviewing Enya and she revealed that the Best Song Nominees will again be done by a single medley of all the nominated songs sung by the individual artists. I liked it when they would scatter the 5 songs throughout the broadcast. However the show would always run so long they have decided to consolidate. Oh well, no full performance on "Until" for us Sunday... Heather

One of my pet peeves, is that none of Police stuff (nor early Sting solo stuff) is available on DVD. Wouldn't it be great if any of the following were on DVD? Outlanda to Synchros Police-Live in Atlanta Police-Around the World. Sting -Soul Cages concert Sting -Ten Summoner's Tales (or Travels would be even better) I for one would LLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE to have "Bring on the Night" (from the Blue Turtles era) on DVD. God, imagine the convenience of going directly to the "Lowlife" rehearsals? So how do we get started in doing this? Petition? Who is in charge? Ross (aka Ross)

That's so funny that you wrote that because that's exactly what I was thinking. She so hysterical concerning Sting, I think it would be unfair to Andy and Stewart. I think they want young rockers influenced by that band, but a good thought, just the same! Thanks for the address, Maggie. So as it stands, we need to 1.) individually contact the RRHOF to get them in and 2.) contact (who A &M?) to get them to release the Police demos/unreleased tracks. As I understand, this needs to be done as a single "fan based" request? Has anyone stepped forward yet to coordinate this? Something weird on sting.com

I don't get it....Sting and sting.com make every effort to hide Sting's involvment with The Police. There has never been one mention of a magazine cover or article or picture publicized. All of a sudden, the 'Uncut' is a "collector's item for any Police fan" What gives here. Does someone in the Sting "family" have a stake in the magazine?!? The entire biography of Sting on sting.com has the following info about the police The Police, of course, established him as a world-renowned songwriter and singer: with Outlandos D'Amour, Reggatta De Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, Ghost in the Machine, Synchronicity and a clutch of live and best-of sets, the trio Sting headed assumed the vanguard of contemporary music throughout the late '70s and early '80s. That is ALL.... And now, all of a sudden, they're nice enough to put price per issue info and a link to subscribe if we want. I don't get it...can someone fill me in -Josh

Just a quick note; I did see this morning on Ebay a Ghost in the Machine DVD out there. Obviously it isn't 'official', at a price of $49.99 US. I know my other favorite group (Genesis) relased a live DVD from their 1992 We Can't Dance tour in December. Maybe one day soon we'll see something in the way of a DVD. Don in Sunny Florida

I think MaryLou Henner would be hilarious to induct either The Police or Sting! After The Tonight Show a few years ago I would to see I little reunion with them.

So, when (not if) the Police are inducted into the R&R Hall Of Fame in 2003, who should have the honor of giving the (usually terrible) little speech? It's usually an artist who is a fan or who was influenced by the inductee. Bono comes to mind, but he's more of a peer than an underling. He's also inducted several people and I think the HOF is giving him a "breather." (Though I think he should have inducted the Ramones. He was a friend and true fan). And, IF the band plays together (not all bands do), which songs do you think they will play? The bigger bands usually get to do three songs. I'd put my money on: Roxanne Don't Stand OR Every Little Thing EBYT If you're interested in writing a letter to suggest the Police for 2003, here's an address I found. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation 1290 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10104 I think it's the right one. The letter can't just say, "Induct the Police, they are awesome."
