So... may I ask if anyone (lurkers, come forth!) has listened to The Altogether at anytime in the past week?
Yup. I was feeling down over the week, as my belovéd was off on the other side of the country, so I wanted to listen to something happy. By the time track 7 came on, I was in lighter spirits. It still comes to me as a great surprise that the DW theme is on there, so I listened to it on one-track repeat for a while, then listened to Shadows for a while. Those two are, without a doubt, two of their best. Only The Box comes close to the sheer eerie beauty of them. Oh, and Minimal Thoughts of Reason by Tipper, but that's the most beautiful piece of music EVER.
I really enjoyed Middle Of Nowhere, and still play it once in a while, but their latest is a big doo-doo in my cd rack, I'm sorry to say...
I'm sorry to hear that. I think there's so much to love about it. I wish you could appreciate it like I do, if only so that you won't have wasted your money. :)
Orbital 2 remains my fav... (and Diversions!)
3rd best dance album ever according to Muzik. Bah, In Sides is their best. IMO, natch :)
While we're all filling up space... :) I'm not a 100% fan of The Altogether, but there are a few tracks that can hold their own as my fav Orbital tunes. For example, I LOVE Meltdown, and was disappointed that the DVD with the longer version didn't come to the US... (in fact, if anyone has an mp3 of the long version, I would not consider it piracy to get from you... though I still hold out that maybe it'll show up on a US b-side or bonus disc someday). Funny Break is also a wonderful song... it reminds me of some of the other quirky one-off singles Orbital have done, like Style which is also excellent, but doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the MoN album. Can't say any of their albums stands out as THE best -- my favs are Brown (Orbital 2), In-Sides, The Box EP, and when I'm in the right mood Snivilisation. (Sniv is one I have to listen to in-full -- I don't care for any of the tracks when they're taken out of context. But when I listen from beginning to end, it's a terrific album.) However, in the desert island scenario, I'd pick Middle of Nowhere. When I first heard Way Out I just about wept openly. Mike
