Hi all, kind of funny that all this dialog came up about this being a dead list as I only joined it about a week ago. Anyhow the Brown album and Snivilisation are absolutely divine, I am also an aphex twin, orb and autechre type fan (have been since the early days) and have seen aphex and orb a couple of times. I just find that recent releases in the IDM scene don't have the same "magic" than the older stuff admittedly I don't keep up with things much any more. What about some suggestions of interesting things to listen too (preferably available online, I do buy my music but also like to hear it first!" Thanks quinophex -- jabberid = quinophex@jabber.earth.li AFFS || http://www.affs.org.uk/ || Not a filesystem
i can't back this up with personal experience, but i've heard that recent releases on merck recordings have a sound similar to that of "classic" idm. that's just hearsay, though. one album that i really recommend, that almost no one will hear about unfortunately, is "ossiah" by george sarah. it's kind of hard to place the album. melodically, a lot of the songs remind me of moby, simply because a lot of similar chords are being used. don't let that put you off though [brendan... ;)]. the beats vary widely. some of them are your pure, classic downtempo-type beats, while others venture into the more structured idm zone (i.e. using non-realistic percussive sounds, etc. if that makes sense). some tracks even sound remotely AFXish (such as the track "source cue 3"). it's out on transistor records. highly recommended. brandon invergo --- Adam Bower <abower@thebowery.co.uk> wrote:
