Yeah, !K7 have loads of great bands - A Guy Called Gerald (whom I run a site on), Funkstorung, Smith & Mighty, as well as their excellent 'DJ Kicks' series - check them out at www.k7.com Also, on the news front, there's a new 808 State abum due shortly (check out www.808state.com for more details) - I'm going to see them live in Glasgow at the beginning of June, together with Shades Of Rhythm, and K-Klass (showing my age a bit here)! On the same subject, there's a new Bomb The Bass album out - well, actually, a compilation of his rather excellent 'Electric Tones' label (featuring some new Bomb The Bass track). This will (hopefully) feature the recent collaboration with Jack Dangers (of Meat Beat Manifesto) called simply 'Tracks'. Check out www.bombthebass.com (for a Flash jukebox) or www.electrictones.com (not much there, just a Flash logo at the moment). Finally, there's obviously the new Orbital singles ('Rest' and 'Play') featuring a reworking of the Golden Girl's 'Kinetic' called 'Frenetic', and a live version of 'Chime' - looking forward to these. And, of course, the compilation album 'Work', which (may) see a double-CD released in Japan - (rumoured on some web sites). Anyone going to see them at Somerset House in June? l8rs, Nick ;-)
cool, thanks for the info! i'm gonna have to look into seeing if i can get some promo copies. i got the original info from a !K7 newsletter, and since i'm in regular contact with them (and just recently won the entire Fila Brazillia back catalogue from them, on a side note...sorry, excited) i'll see if they're handling that one or not.
thanks again, brandon invergo
ps- this is what the orbital list that i remember used to be all about. people talking about bands related to, but not necessarily exactly orbital. i discovered half the bands in my cd book on this list.

Think that it's just "that other guy now" (aka Ken Downie), www.dogsquad.com might have the answer:
"The people at Warp records took care of us after that, and released "Bytes" our first album. We did a few gigs, some of which were *bloody amazing*, and some not. Bjork got behind us, which was nice. "Spanners" you'll probably have heard, so there's no need to go on about it here. Ed and Andy departed in 1995.
Subsequently we released Music for Adverts (and short films) on Warp - an album that demands emotional commitment from the listener. An antidote to prolific, soul-less electronica. The brave media readily supported us (film maker Gus Van Sant describes it as "advanced techno"). Sadly poor distribution has made it rather hard to obtain. As the third album by The Black Dog this completes our recordings with Warp... we no longer entirely fit within with their label identity, so we've parted company, enabling us to realise projects that were otherwise deemed inappropriate.
Despite consistent lack of support from the traditional music media, I'm determined to carry on as "a multimedia artist", keeping the underground vibe alive, not solely as an electronic musician. The Black Dog will pave his own way..."
Yup, and it's proceeded by 3 promo-only 12" single, remixed by...
...808 State, CJ Bolland, Jimmy Cauty (KLF), The Beloved, A Guy Called Gerald, etc...
Check out www.unsavouryproducts.com or www.hydrogendukebox.com (their record label, where you can order stuff)
BTW, the first promo 12" is out now (808 State/CJ Bolland mixes), with the rest to follow shortly... Album is out April 29th...
l8rs,
Nick ;-)
apparently, Black Dog (which, correct me if I'm wrong, is Plaid plus one other guy, right? or is it just "that other guy" now?) is putting out a new album. here's the info i got:
Black Dog + Black Sifichi - Unsavoury Products (Hydrogen Dukebox)
Unsavoury Products is a tribute to William Burroughs by an artist that shares his uncompromising vision. The album was inspired by Black Dog's collaboration with Burroughs in the months prior to his death (the fruits of which will surface as an album in the future). Working closely with performance artist and poet Black Sifichi, the result is a seamless 20 track exploration of contemporary existence - a powerful narrative set to a stunning score of unique and challenging music. Fusing elements of Arabic rhythms, found sounds and avant garde abstraction with the best elements of a broad spectrum of contemporary music, a mind-boggling library of samples and the cutting edge production sensibilities with which The Black Dog are synonymous, Unsavoury Products would be an awe-inspiring piece of work simply as an instrumental album. Embellished with Black Sifichi's insightful verse, however, and laced with gritty humor and keenly observed reflection, this album accelerates into the realms of genius.
looking forward to it brandon invergo
