Hello there fellow Orbies! Michael here and I wanted to make this list aware of the celebration my radio show has been undertaking for the past month or so....... To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of "The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld", I've decided to celebrate with "The Summer of The Orb". Since the summer started, I've been playing an Orb, or Orb related, tune every week. Each month of the summer will feature an Orb member guest hosting their own episode of "The 180". (Our radio experiment where guest hosts and programmers "takeover" Music For Listeners for a full three hour broadcast.) Steve and Miquette already took part last month with a great mix by System 7! You can still listen to the archived show at the website I've built for "The 180". (You have to surf to June 2011 to listen to them.) I would, because their mix is really great!!! http://www.the180.info/ Also, from the start of this experiment, I've been planning on asking Dr. LX to host episode 23, and it's super nice that it "almost" coincides with the Ultraworld anniversary in August. LX will be the host in a week and a half. (His announcement is now up on the 180 site.) He has already sent me the playlist, and I must say that even longtime Orb fans will want to tune in. He's throwing us a lot of great unreleased bits including some rare tracks and remixes that might have only seen the light of day on a Chewy Choosedays somewhere, and maybe not even there. If I'm not mistaken, he's even got some new forthcoming Orb material to play!!! I'm in the process of confirming Mr Thomas Fehlmann for August to continue the celebration.............that's the plan anyway. Since Alex is playing so many Orb rarities on his show, I thought it would be fun to post the three "fan mixes" I've done of Orb tracks over the years. You can listen to these on the The Orb's "listen to artist" link on the 180 page linked above. A mix of "Mother Nature" a friend helped me mix for the Soundcloud contest a couple years back. A mix of "Terminus" I did as a gift for an amazing friend in late 2000, (my favorite of the three), and the mix I did of "Assassin" for the "Absorb the Orb" contest way back in late '93. Unreleased Orb goodies abound from him and some unreleased fan mixes from me. Enjoy Alex's show will be live on Saturday morning - July 30, 2011. Midnight-3 AM CDT (5 AM - 8 AM GMT) --- Live stream on www.krtu.org - After the live broadcast, it will stream on the MFL website for two weeks, www.musicforlisteners.com and on the 180 website indefinitely. www.the180.info I'm super excited the Orb gang are taking part and I hope you can tune in!!!! Yours truly, Michael "Skidoo" Thomas P.S. This week, MFL is airing an exclusive live recording from the London band Still Corners. We recorded them at our unofficial SXSW party back in March. They are quite atmospheric if you've never heard them before. Very nice dreamy pop. Check our recording out this week on the program.
