Man it was hot! During the day most of my energy was sapped by the blazing sun, but once the evening came I was ready to rock. My highlights of the festival were !!! and Broken Social Scene, both proved that it's not about how popular or cool your band is, but the energy and honesty that is brought to the performance. Turns out me and my buddies knew one of the members of LCD Soundsystem (who were very good as well, kind of dance punk thang in the vein of the Rapture) so she got us back stage to the comfy chairs and free stuff, which was much appreciated. On the main stage Radiohead gave the stellar performance we've come to expect from this outstanding band, the Pixies were great too, but having seen them in a 1000 person venue days before, watching them from half a mile away just couldn't even come close to comparing. In the DJ tent DJ Icon spun some nice breaks (where I also met up with Gavin), Adam Freeland kicked some major ass dropping the Beastie Boys "Fight For Your Right to Party" (complete with "Impeach Bush" scrolling across the screens) to wild cheers. Kraftwerk was good too, but I was a little disappointed that they were using laptops instead of vintage synths, I think analog sounds would have but the music part of their performance over the top. I also caught solid sets (or at least parts of) by Beck, Air,Prefuse 73, Mogwai, Danger Mouse and Kinky. The only truly weak set I saw all weekend was The Cure. Overall the sound was "thin", the drumming boring and the keyboards almost non-existant, not the lush sonics that I remember from the old albums. But at that point we had seen way too much killer music to even begin to complain. Overall Coachella provides a musical experience like none other (at least in States) and should be experienced at least once by all music lovers, hope to see y'all there next year!
