Auntie Aubrey's 1 questions
Hi all, I recently managed to get hold of a copy of the 4LP version of Auntie Aubrey's as well as the stereo version of the UK CD, but I have a few questions. - [Vinyl] Unlike what the labels say, there wasn't a booklet included with the vinyl version. I tried to contact the seller, but alas no response from him. Does anyone know if the booklet was included anyway? And if so, was it the same as the CD version? - [CD] Does anyone know when the stereo reissue was released? All I could find on the net was reference to the Ultra Records version, which was released in 2001. The Deviant site itself mentiones that it got a stereo rerelease, but doesn't say when. Thanks in advance, Johan P.S. I do like the OOPA track. Not very typical Orb, but doesn't make that typical Orb? ;)
My 4xLP copy (bought used) didn't come with a booklet. I can't imagine they made an LP sized booklet to go with it with it's limited run and the price of printing fvll - [Vinyl] Unlike what the labels say, there wasn't a booklet included with the vinyl version. Out of interest, on the vinyl version are the various remixes distinct, separate tracks, or are they sort of slopped together like they are on the CDs? They are mixed together (well, no gaps inbetween them... :D ). The track times deviate from the times printed, not only on vinyl but also on CD. I haven't compared the two yet... I will put my findings here after I'm finished: http://www.discogs.com/Orb-Auntie-Aubreys-Excursions-Beyond-The-Call-Of-Duty -The-Orb-Remix-Project/release/167487 Johan -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] Namens John Goelzer Verzonden: maandag 23 februari 2009 15:49 Aan: 'What were the skies like when you were young?' I always hated the fact that the Auntie Aubrey comps were mixed together. I didn't have the money to buy those 12" singles then, and most of those singles are hard to track down now. Like then, and now, I've always wanted those remix tracks separately. I'll mix them myself thank you very much. Also...it's been brought up before....the mono mixes are insufficent....what a ripoff. Orb in mono.....bleh..........."I think I'll take that copy of Pomme Fritz in mono please"........yeah right..... Certainly, the best thing I remember about getting thatfirst Auntie Aubrey release WAS the booklet. Nice discography, with pictures....and it twas, at the time, a great help to the Orb fans......especially on the remix releases. Aaaaahhhh.....in the days before the internet........ You forgot to put "mixed" in quotation marks. It's one thing on the CD version, but if I'm going to spend for 4x12" vinyl they'd better be full, separate, unmixed tracks. Good to know! Buyer beware. Hmm, i kinda liked the 'mixed' tracks. It's nice is you listen it all in one go. (i hate fade outs.. :-) ) gr, R

...which is why I said it's OK for the CD version, i.e., "listening experience." As another poster pointed out, though, if I'm springing for the vinyl edition it's probably because I want to mix them myself and not because I want to sit down and listen to all eight sides from stem to stern. hmmm.... Then you could mix it together yourself. That's my point. If the tracks were separate, I would be able to listen to them separately AND mix them in any order I prefer. As it stands, I cannot enjoy "Fast Forward The Future" without "Higher Than The Sun" coming in at the end. What if I don't want to play "Higher Than the Sun" at the end? Us fans on the Orb list talk sometimes stir up a conversation about the most "problematic" Orb release. I would have to say these Auntie Aubrey albums are the flubs of the catalog. I am glad that they exist, I just think they are Alex's biggest flubs. Mono mixes, all mixed together...different versions from one release to the next....instead of a "third" release so as not to confuse even a big fan like me - Even different versions between the U.S. and U.K. versions....what a mess. I'm not even a fan that most of the Ultraworld Aubrey Mixes album is mixed together as well. Those tracks were, at the time, unreleased Orb mixes, and I would rather have the album as separate tracks. Orbscure Trax is most likely the best Orb compilation I can think of...it was a promo AND not mixed together. So...studio albums are one thing....but compilations shouldn't be mixed. Give me the rare tracks, or let me save my money. For what it's worth, my two cents... Michael
I have to disagree. Yes, the first edition Auntie was in mono, but the Auntie Aubrey 2 in Ultra records are really cool. Some mixes are different from the previously released remixes (Can, Rick Wright, etc...), so I don't mind if the tracks are mixed or not. On the Auntie 2 different tracklistings in US and UK, only the die hard fans like us (like me) would want the two releases for one or two different tracks. It was the same thing later with the Bad Orb compilations. JC Le 25 févr. 09 à 02:50, Michael Thomas a écrit :

As one of those fans who's a completist for the remixes, I never considered those compilations to be a good resource. You lose intros and outros from each song. That was enough for me to focus on the individual tracks from the original 12" and CD single sources. Because I've tracked down so many of those singles over the years, I actually enjoy listening to them more. The comps are a good look into why the Orb's production is so great but it didn't satisfy everyone's needs for the very reason that they were mixed and mono of all things. I suspect the alternate track listings had to do with licensing issues. Not sure about that but is seems plausible. Yeah, I like how Freaky Chakra albums are mixed on CD, but separate on vinyl (no help for these new-fangled CD DJs I guess). I -think- Terrarvm is also this way, now that I consider the issue.... T
