which is Scott Heren who also
records under Prefuse 73,/listinfo/orb
The new Prefuse 73 is coming out in a couple of weeks, I'm definitely looking forward to that one. There was a weird neuvo-classical CD that Scott Heren put out recently as well, had a funny name I think it started with a "K" actually, fairly mellow and interesting. He also puts on a great live show, I saw him warm up for Amon Tobin last fall, he was great. I have to motivate and get tickets to the upcoming show with him and RJd2. I got a hold of few rare orb mixes from a guy on Soulseek who has an unbelievable collection of live recordings (here they are: http://www.bi11i.com/orb/orbsets.htm) If you scroll to the bottom, the sets in yellow are the rare ones that I was able to obtain. Plus some mp3 copies of some mix tapes (here are the covers: http://www.bi11i.com/orb/orbtapes.htm) The guy on Soulseek was VERY insistent that I not share these tape dubs or covers out with anyone and claims to have some close tie to the band or 'share them and so-and-so would get in trouble.' (sure sure, that's what they all say, But I've never seen any of these mixes out there before, either.) When I have some free bandwidth -- I'll get what I have up to Moondog's, or whoevers FTP... I'm curious if anyone out there has any of these others (like the La Luna stuff in Portland, or some of the others that are in Tokyo.) Is anyone out there familiar enough with the circulating live material to know what sets we don't have and need to find? The guy who has all of these mixes is unwilling to share them out but I would love to see if I could find them elsewhere -- he's a member of the list, too -- maybe he'll poke his head out and decide to upload them for everyone to enjoy...?
When you trade with someone any you send them your list and trade only files (which the source of these told me they didn't want on any sharing network, not my choice, there's), you trust them when they promise they won't distribute these. You expect them to uphold that trust He (Bi11i) didn't Won't be trusted ever again And because you can see my list (or part of it), Thanks Bi11i , Anybody got anything they would like to trade ? You're correct in that -- I didn't plan on keeping them to myself. They're not recordings of me nor do I own them in any way, and neither do you for that matter. Why keep such recordings to oneself when they could be shared with another Orb fan? You've got an entire list of people here that are huge fans of the orb, but you're saying that these 'special' recordings are your own property. I'm not saying that it's your responsibility to distribute these works just because you happen to have them, nor am I saying that you're required to give them to me just because I ask for them. But I am saying that for you to ask me not to share them with anyone else is just fucking ridiculous -- they're not mine to make that decision and besides, what fun is it to greedily hoard a bunch of rare material when you could share the music experience with others?
From the looks of your list, you've been a member here for quite some time (hell, probably longer than I have), I'm sure that most of what you've got in there certainly wasn't recorded by you -- so why would you, and for so long, not even post that these exist or bother to share them out with the list that has probably been a HUGE resource in helping you to find them in the first place?
Maybe what you've got has been floating around out there for quite some time, but I've never seen them before. If I'm wrong in assuming so -- I offer my most sincere of apologies. I was going to wait until next month when I'll have the ISP to host my own FTP site (I spent a good while collecting and sorting out the same collection that's been floating around various list FTP throughout the years.) I'm upping what I've got to Moondog's FTP for now and will work on putting up anything else I've neglected to share out. -----Original Message----- From: orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Steve Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2003 4:55 PM To: What were the skies like when you were young? I only listen to the Orb for scientific reasons, not entertainment, so can I have those orbscure live shows?....I'm uh....doing research for my album and uh....I just think If I had those shows, the science community and eventually the whole world would be better off...I can assure you that I get no pleasure from the orb whatsoever. bi11i Aren't you the one that asked me for a trade and then told me you had the Thursday teatime show from 30-05-2002, Sent me a file and it turned out to be 31-05-2001, you had just changed the date !!! very nice of you. I realised this and then you said you would get it, Thats the time you came crying to the list members to see if they had it. Then I gave you an ftp login to get those "trade only" files (If I had my way I would have publicly shared them but I promised the person I got them from I wouldn't, and I keep my word) You uploaded teatime sets I already had, so I had to delete them and tell you to stop. So I let you have all those without trading anything, and you promised not to distribute them. " But I am saying that for you to ask me not to share them with anyone else is just fucking ridiculous -- they're not mine to make that decision and besides, what fun is it to... " Why did you say you wouldn't then , are you a liar ??? Lets recap I gave you ftp access to get all those sets and your moaning about it No-one can trade stuff anymore they have to put it on a public ftp Everyone that has something not commonly available is in violation of your way of thinking Sorry if this is boring for the rest of the list members Thrash say something funny now !!! Take care all Steve
This is a repost because of the shitty 3k limit Please - don’t bother posting me back telling me why we need it.. I really have to comment here because I done some of that shit wot is on that list Not that I don’t whinge on about everything anyway but errr here goes When you file-share you indulge in the spirit of it You don't hoard, its not a race, you share and enjoy and contribute to what you feel appropriate. If you are trading the files as leverage to get what you want (who is this person who doesn’t want to share them, I need to have a word with them..) And you specifically don't want people to get hold of them because that spoils your trading - tough shit If that’s the case I will upload them all myself onto kazaa and urge others to follow.. But really , please reconsider as this is not the spirit of sharing I'm saying that and I and others involved don't get any cash for this shite! All these special mixes you lot get - I don’t mind, maybe lx and simon do, but it makes this attitude kind of hurt... In the eyes of the establishment it would be more in my interests to follow the RIAA standard line(ala Madonna/miss E) and prosecute you immediately as they are doing to various hapless students around the world.. " invalid argument error syntax error letmespeaktothatblokeandillfuckingkickhisheadinerror I want the email address of the guy who said you cant share that shit he does not own the copyright for those performances Some of those performances contain my songs And if this guy does not change his tune There will be trouble... Why did you say you wouldn't then , are you a liar ??? It is not legal to promise not to copy them And certainly not in the spirit of the net Please don't write me back saying he got the dates wrong on purpose If he did - he is one of those saps that should be electrocuted for their crimes... ok end of story - thanks Lets recap You have whinged on And withheld illegally, files which you have no right over If you do not cease and desist I shall sue I think I shall sue anyone who doesn't share my tracks As opposed to madonnas bitch schlap approach Which is killing music (rather than piracy_) So last time - don't fuck with my tracks or Simons or Lx's Don't tell people who can have them or cant.. they're not yours And not yours to decide what sharing network you can put them on Sorry if this is boring for the rest of the list members Thrash say something funny now !!! bollcks

Actually, I recall downloading the 30-05-2002 set from one of the many FTP's here, then when it turned out to be the wrong one, yes I actually did press the list to see if they had it or could find it so I could find a way to 'liberate' the rest of the shit you'd been hoarding. I even contacted groovetech several times to see if I could get it from them. I'll be open about the fact that all I was doing was trying to find a way to get what you were hoarding out to the public (being that it's called file SHARING, not file TRADING -- the application you're using to trade is a SHARING application. Didn't learn how to 'share' when you were a child?) Sure, sure, you "promised the person you wouldn't share them out." ""(If I had my way I would have publicly shared them but I promised the person I got them from I wouldn't, and I keep my word)"" So then why did you share them out with me? What's the point of keeping them on a list like that if you're not going to share them out? Looks to me like you got your way anyhow, they're now shared publicly. As I recall, I uploaded some Bill Brooks remixes to you that you didn't have, and yes had uploaded a few things that weren't on your list but turned out that you already had. What is it that bothers you about me trying to share what rare music I had with you? That's why it's called 'file sharing'. I was actually just trying to be nice in getting you some stuff it looked like you didn't have. I was able to grab a few of what this guy has and will get them up on Moondog's FTP or anywhere else if I can find one open. As soon as I posted this to the list, he took all of his toys and went home. Has anyone had a chance to look at the list and see if they've got any of these rare live recordings? (http://www.bi11i.com/orb/orbsets.htm)
Hey man Bit glum that you posted the list though You should have got them first and then posted man
Tried my best -- this guy was no longer willing to share them out so what to do but try and get him to see the light and maybe put them up somewhere...? I did get a few of them however, I'll my list together and put them up somewhere asap. -----Original Message----- From: orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of arrogant avatar [OT] Sent: Sunday, April 27, 2003 8:06 AM To: 'What were the skies like when you were young?' Saw Prefuse 73 live openint for Plaid back at the end of march, pretty wierd stuff. He's also going on tour through the states in May. He'll be in Chicago on the 23rd of May at the Empty Bottle. Gavin --- JASON HICKS <ikki1@msn.com> wrote:
