What can I expect from the NYC shows i'll be attending? what's the difference as mentioned here between a "dj set" and "the orb live"????
A fuckload. DJ set is LX djing, mainly other artists' records. He's quite good, too. An Orb live show is mind-blowing, awesome, some of the best live stuff I've seen, period. It's actually a mix of live playing and mixing in samples, etc. T

Maybe it was the drugs but I remember his DJ sets to be trainwrecks. Maybe he's improved?
I think it kinda dependa on the night, and how much he has had to drink/smoke beforehand. I've heard LX sets that were absolutely incredible, and others that were total nightmares.
Has anyone heard Fehlmann spin before?
Thomas was here in Sf maybe about 6 months ago? He dj'd at a very small space called the RX Gallery, and I thought he was very good. I'm curious to see how these live shows go without all the usual characters... Dare I get my hopes up for some of my old faves when there won't be any live bass? =) rachel

Do you remember what kind of stuff did he play? For some reason I see him spinning stuff that sounds like g-strings - my least favorite orb track of all time - minimal tracky techno type stuff. I'm very glad they're coming to Chicago and am also curious to see how this incarnation of the orb will sound. -matt
Thomas played some stuff across the board - it definitely leaned towards German minimal techno (big surprise), but then there were some groovy tracks along the lines of Cool Harbour. I remember being uninspired ot dance for the first half, but then a groove picked up and I spent the rest of the night on my feet. (I'm sure that wasn't the info you were looking for - heh heh) =) rach

Thanks Rachel! That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for!!! I'm not a big fan of that kind of techno, or any techno for that matter, but I'll listen with an open mind. -matt

I saw him play tracks off his laptop a little over a year ago (including Cool Harbor) and even spoke to him briefly, it was pretty cool.

Well Orblivion tour was pretty awesome without bass, but he did have the headbanging Andy Hughes to help him out.

It was Simon Phillips, long time collaboratior with the Orb, also does his own thing with Prayerbox. in Prayerbox news, they are currently putting the finishing touches on their album, which is due out later this year on Wikked records. Gavin --- Matt S <slugdub@gmail.com> wrote:

I dunno, I saw him do a set opening for Meat Beat (this was the Sub Sand tour) - I was mightily impressed. He played lots of drum and bass type stuff, if I remember. Granted, could have been an anomoly, it was awhile back, etc. Main memory I have of it was a bunch of Oklahoma dipshit "djs" trash-talking his stuff/set/performance etc, all while he was flawlessly mixing. Yeah, you guys are where now? T
