Re: [Orb] Future Sound of London: "The Isness"
What do people think of this? I personally was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED by this release, and thought it to be VERY WEAK in comparison to their previous works... I mean a lot of it sounds like jam band gueetar CRAP!!! :-( What gives?!!?!? This is not the FSOL we know and love :-(
Album of the year for me. I love it. _________________________ omz http://www.hotweird.com/loaf
well, i like it. but i like old Pink Floyd so, this isn't that much of a stretch. and i read on their website that the good ole USA is the ONLY place where this is listed as an FSOL release. they wanted to release it under a different name, but their US label told 'em "No, it won't sell if it doesn't have FSOL on it..." so, here we get it released as such. i think in the UK it is listed as an "Amorphous Androgynous" release. anyway, they know that this isn't what we expected (hence the naming issues) and do plan a proper FSOL release next year... check out the website listed on the CD sleeve.... From an interview in Future Music magazine (or was it Computer Music?), they said they wanted to release it under the FSOL name, but the record company thought that it would hurt sales because it didn't fit in with past FSOL releases.
Anyway, record label games aside, I absolutely love this album and I think it's damn near brilliant. This is one of those albums that I was unsure of at first but quickly got better by every listen. My sole has needed this kind of music for a long time but I was too stubborn to realize it. Crap, I cry nearly every time I hear "Divinity". That's how close it hits home. -----Original Message----- From: orb-admin@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-admin@mailman.xmission.com]On Behalf Of P J Kane Sent: Monday, October 14, 2002 3:31 PM To: orb@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: [Orb] Future Sound of London: "The Isness" well, i like it. but i like old Pink Floyd so, this isn't that much of a stretch. and i read on their website that the good ole USA is the ONLY place where this is listed as an FSOL release. they wanted to release it under a different name, but their US label told 'em "No, it won't sell if it doesn't have FSOL on it..." so, here we get it released as such. i think in the UK it is listed as an "Amorphous Androgynous" release. anyway, they know that this isn't what we expected (hence the naming issues) and do plan a proper FSOL release next year... check out the website listed on the CD sleeve.... It was future music. I read it in the newsagent, as I wanted to get jockey slut for the mr scruff piece and didn't want to buy two expensive music mags for 2-3 pages of interest in each.

Yes This album is brilliant. Amazing. Beautiful. But then I like pink floyd too, so maybe that's why i tolerated it enough to let it grow on me. btw, in the UK it's released as "amorphous androgynous", but a sticker on the cd says "future sound of london present..." -- "It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emporer has no clothes. But the half-wit remains a half-wit, and the emperor remains an emperor." - Neil Gaiman

Me too. It's stunning. Scorpio Rising by Death In Vegas is grabbing me hard at the mo' too. But I've always been a fan of geetar nusic -- "Yield to temptation, it may not pass your way again." - Robert Heinlein

oops, meant "music" can't go mis-spelling one word and then being too drunk to type the next ;-) -- "He who knows does not speak. He who speaks does not know." - Lao Tze
"My sole has needed this kind of music for a long time but I was too stubborn to realize it." Whoops, I meant soul, not sole.
