My router died a few days ago, so I took the plunge into wireless. Have my laptop sitting at my entertainment center streaming mp3s from the desktop into my stereo. Sweet. Wireless is awesome, isn't it? I recently got a spiffy laptop and set myself up a WAP for the house and it's one of the coolest things I've done in a while. The range is good enough I can go outside in my back yard and listen to the water trickling in the fishpond as I sit in a beach chair. Now I'm suddenly thinking of popping one into the switch at my office. I'm seriously considering getting a wireless nic with any new machines I build. I suddenly can sneak a computer into a corner and don't have to worry about hiding cat 5 as I snake it around the house. WiFi is a great practical application of technology. One of the first innovations as of late that's really struck me. ---- Mark Schieldrop Reporter, The Narragansett Times mark@schieldrop.net
