Re: [Orb] Orb Digest, Vol 62, Issue 6
i hear ya jeff. and like i said it's not like i listen to NO new music.... i surely listen to plenty. i'm just saying i'll never push aside these timeless gems just to fill some need to stay current or whatever. and no doubt you'll never find new music or know what's out there if you don't get a taste. personally i let a lot of that "come to me" through good peeps like yourselves. if a particular act gets enough talk on a list like this - that usually prompts me to investigate. i must admit though....it usually takes a GOOD amount of support to get me interested. i wanna hear rave reviews across the board - otherwise...i just haven't the time =()
Time-poor we are - or at least I am! Heavens, no - don't push away your faves, your roots (*even* if they involve Rush :-), or your past. I was into Motown, bubblegum, The Monkees (for Heaven's sake!!), heavy metal, disco, prog/artrock, glam, punk, all kinds of electronic stuff and every kind of weirdo-experimental on and on...I have learned to reclaim, live with, and recognize my disparate roots as shaping my current ears, and I can see the value in all of it. After a certain age, one (hopefully) recognizes the fad/elitist nature of trends and rejects that, while treasuring the richness of one's musical heritage. jeff Ken Erxleben wrote:
