I decided to listen to a cd so I went in the other room and said, "First thing you see that looks good." Odd but it took me three shelves before "777" leapt out at me. I didn't hear this album until it was released by Caroline over here and was completely floored by it at the time. I had already arranged acid trips around listens to a couple of Orb albums (and a select other group) and didn't really grasp at the time how interwoven that 777 album and the early Orb was. There is so much joy in the performances and depth in the mix... I can only imagine the sessions must have been something incredibly cool. This is one of those albums I've studied closely trying to figure out how it was done and that's because it's pretty obvious on most recordings. I'm missing Burning Man once again. With regard to the sessions of system 7 Oh ho ho ho 'steve, have a banana' Was I think the highlight of the sessions... That and the 'ping-pong delay' cracked me up Fast forward was a great session actually... Large couch in front of the mixing desk Mixing jimi hendrix style with my feet upside down at one point I liked the anarchic ambient angle... Like punk ambient... -- )) (( c[_] bLiP www.justablip.co.uk (don't bother going there) www.justablip.co.uk -----Original Message----- From: orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Alan Sent: 25 August 2003 01:59 To: orb@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Orb] System 7 I decided to listen to a cd so I went in the other room and said, "First thing you see that looks good." So how much was Fripp involved in the FFWD sessions? I heard he basically laid down some of his patented soundscapes, and then you guys did the rest. And how was working with him? I know he's not the type to sit around and smoke ganja with..... Yer Pal, Gel-Sol www.gel-sol.com

Kwistothrashaluficus, How much was Fripp involved in the FFWD sessions? I heard he layed down some of his patented soundscapes and you guys did the rest. Also, how was he to work with? I dont see him as the type to sit around and get high with you guys... I actually saw Fripp play his soundscapes several years ago, and he had a rare Q&A session, where I asked him if he was gonna do another FFWD album, and he said something along the lines of "You know those boys in the Orb...they like to rave into the long hours of the night, where as I go to bed at 10 o'clock everynight." He also made a reference to the pot smoking by putting his hand to his mouth like had some sort of magical invisible bloot-torker. Yer Pal, Gel-Sol www.gel-sol.com
