(And he then sent the boys to park the car while he & I went inside and enjoyed a drink - ha!) It was such a lovely evening of catching up.... he really was a top guy, very talented, and much fun to be around...

Has anyone ever seen a decent boot from 1995? It really was one of the best Orb tours, the gig at Roseland was fantastic. On Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 12:36 PM, Tim C <timc_orb@comcast.net> wrote:

Unfortunately i also never met Andy personally, but i clearly recall his appearance at the show they performed in Utrecht/Netherlands in 1995 (happy happy joy joy). In those days Andy had long hair (also lx actually, well not on top though..) and i remember his 'head-bang' style while mixing behing a *huge* mixing console. Very cool dude.

I'm with Tim. Orbscure Trax will take me to work tomorrow.
I have been on this list since only 2006. Catching up to The Orb in Winnipeg means I have no "when I met Andy" stories. Very, very sad news. Thank you all who were much closer to him for posting.

Good stories, thanks. Terrible news indeed....
Was wondering, can someone with more info than me (scant other than what's on Orb wikipedia page) expand the stub on Andy at wikipedia?
Looks like Orbscure Trax gets the nod for this evening's listening....

I was thinking of that day too, and the car trouble we had getting up to Brixton to meet Andy, on our way to Cargo for a "Le Petite Orb" set...but he was in great form when we eventually got there!
I've also been thinking how lucky I was to hang out in the studio around the early Cydonia sessions, thanks to Andy...
...hearing 'A Mile Long Lump of Lard' the day it was first recorded - "have a listen to what we did today" - and sitting with Alex, Thomas Felhmann and Andy while the vocals for 'once more' were being recorded are two occasions that spring to mind...
...but especially heading to the local pub with Andy for a few beers each time.
I also remember Andy for always sorting out guestlist tickets for fans he meet through this list - he sorted after-show party passes for JC, myself and mrs smiley at the Albert Hall U.F.OFF show, for example...
...and, even though we were about the only unknowns in the room (Jimi Cauty, Irvine Welsh and Annie Nightingale were our nearest companions), we were the first people Andy came to talk to, after his family.
That's the kind of bloke he was, and even though I had lost touch with him recently, I'll truly miss him.
Rest in Peace, Andy.

I had Andy & Fil out to play a show in SF in Fall of 2000 (I think). We had a great time during the show and the next day when I took them around town. (Here's a photo from that day: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=832349&l=eedf756436&id=530464501)
Years later I finally made it over to London, and I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I had a number of Orb-related activities planned. I spent one day at Smiley's house, playing records and hanging out in his lovely garden. Then we were headed back into town for an Orb show (sans Andy - this was while they were on the outs) and to meet up with some of the other listees.
We planned to have an early drink with Andy but it was a harrowing journey into town - traffic was worse than unusual, and IIRC, Smiley's car had a couple issues along the way, too. Suffice to say, we were pretty late. When we (finally) pulled up, Andy shot us this massive grin - he looked genuinely happy in that one moment. (And he then sent the boys to park the car while he & I went inside and enjoyed a drink - ha!) It was such a lovely evening of catching up.... he really was a top guy, very talented, and much fun to be around...

Good question.. I cannot recall i have a good sounding concert boot leg from 1995.. Maybe someone else?? I would also be interested. I also remember they played at MTV's Most Wanted (with Roy Cakes ;-) ), which i saw on tv but i haven't got a decent recording, maybe others do? In those days Andy had long hair (also lx actually, well not on top though..) and i remember his 'head-bang' style while mixing behing a *huge* mixing console. Very cool dude. R

I'm with Tim. Orbscure Trax will take me to work tomorrow.
I have been on this list since only 2006. Catching up to The Orb in Winnipeg means I have no "when I met Andy" stories. Very, very sad news. Thank you all who were much closer to him for posting.
Dave.

Good stories, thanks. Terrible news indeed....
Was wondering, can someone with more info than me (scant other than what's on Orb wikipedia page) expand the stub on Andy at wikipedia?
Looks like Orbscure Trax gets the nod for this evening's listening....

I was thinking of that day too, and the car trouble we had

I've also been thinking
how lucky I was to hang out in the
studio around the early Cydonia sessions, thanks to Andy...
...hearing 'A Mile Long Lump of Lard' the day it was first recorded - "have a listen to what we did today" - and sitting with Alex, Thomas Felhmann and Andy while the vocals for 'once more' were being recorded are two occasions that spring to mind...

...but especially heading to the local pub with Andy for a few beers each time.
I also remember Andy for always sorting out guestlist tickets for fans he meet through this list - he sorted after-show party passes for JC, myself and mrs smiley at the Albert Hall
>U.F.OFF show, for example...
...and, even
though we were about the only unknowns in the
room (Jimi Cauty, Irvine Welsh and Annie Nightingale were our nearest companions), we were the first people Andy came to talk to, after his family.
That's the kind of bloke he was, and even though I had lost touch with him recently, I'll truly miss him.
Rest in Peace, Andy.

We planned to have an early drink with Andy but it was a

Suffice to say, we were pretty late. When we (finally) pulled up, Andy shot us this massive grin - he looked genuinely happy in that one moment. (And he then sent the boys to park the car while he & I went inside and
