new Orb perspective: sound waves/5.1 mixes/Kris and the newbies
Sound waves: I remember seeing a car muffler using phase cancellation principles. It looked like a big can at the bumper of the car and as far as the engine was concerned it was a straight pipe (so more power, less weight, etc.). As the exhaust entered the chamber its sound was fired back at it from a speaker facing the port resulting in a completely silent car. I doubt it'll get installed on any before we've converted to hydrogen fuel cells (or should I say I HOPE). I would guess that going back and remastering the early Orb would pretty much be impossible as Kris intimated that a great deal of the mixing was done on the fly. I think all groups should begin using 5.1 starting yesterday but to retrofit stereo recordings to 5.1 isn't a good idea. Artists use surround in concert but I don't know anyone with a 5.1 microphone or portable recording device. What is my point? Good question. What I can't figure is why the record companies haven't started re-issuing old quadrophonic records (like Quadraphenia) as 5.1 recordings. Talk about made for surround! Lastly, that whole thing with Kris and the newbie was just too great. Welcome to the fold, you nob. : ) www.psychicreform.com Who let that monkey in here!?! Dada is dead. Watch your overcoat.
