The strangest coincidence - I bought a new car last week (and immediately put my Orb sticker in the back window) which has XM satellite radio in it. I was listening to channel 82 (The System, I think?) and an Orb track from Bicycles & Tricycles came on. I looked at the temperature and it was 82 degrees out and I looked at my speedometer and I was going 82. A sign??? Has anybody else got XM and if so what are the best stations and/or shows at what time? - John Wintemute
Yeah, I remember having a grip of them Aubrey's stickers from Area One. Whenever they'd wear out or I'd get a new car I'd toss one on. God.. I think I ran out.. i'm really gonna have to find more. On 7/30/05, John Wintemute <john@wintemuteinsurance.com> wrote:

Heh. Gotta love it when a band is named after a futuristic mood-altering device, and it's about the most appropriate name possible for the music involved. And the various earth-departures as well. T

In the US, often the plate stays with the car. I'm not sure how personalized plates work though, i.e, if you can transfer a personal plate to a different car, or if you have to get a new one with a different personalization with each change of vehicle, or what. I've never gotten one because I'll be damned if I'll be jacked out of any more than I have to to operate a vehicle. (Actually, there's some little-known tax status called Corporation Sole (I think) that gets one around having to register a car - or pay income tax - but I think its loopholes are being slowly closed, if they haven't already been). Actually, I think in many states you have to carry the car's original non-personalized plate in the car somewhere (a huge WHAT?) so my guess is that's the actual plate that stays with the car? T

So what Orb plates are out there? I've toyed with the idea of getting one for ages now, but as Tim pointed out, it does cost quite a bit extra each year. However, after losing an irreplaceable sticker to someone who doesn't know how to park, I'm giving it more consideration... ------------------------------------ Rachel's Orb Discography http://www.backsideoftheorb.com
I have: THE ORB UF ORB BLUROOM Currently THE ORB is on my car. Tim, regarding plates: the registered plates are owned by you; they are merely tied to the car in the DMVs database. However, if you get a new car, you need only tell the dmv and move the plates to the car for a small fee. In WI, it's a $35 fee to register a car and transfer plates you own to the new car. It's $80/year to own custom plates, over the $55/year to have plates at all. It might be slightly different in other states, but I do know that it's safe to own plates without having to give them up should you get rid of the car in question. Similar in florida. I have XEN LAB on my truck now. I can freely transfer it from car to car for only $5. I believe normal plates were around $80 and a personalized plate was only $100-120. Renewall is only like $10 more than normal (which is around $45). The cost is not exorbitant at all, and worth it in my opinion. In VA the prices between the two are even closer. 2 out of 3 cars it seems have a personalized plate. On 8/2/05, Brian <brian@lists.frickster.net> wrote:

heh, I started a thread! U F Orb 1 and the car they're affixed to made it to every Orb gig in April of 2001, too. --------boring Illinois mumbo jumbo------ in Illinois, over the last 5 years the fees changed dramaticly... When I got them, basic plates were $48. Add $11 for "personalized" plates, which contain at least 2 letters and at least 1 number. There was no price difference in cost for yearly renewal. "Vanity" plates, which were upto 7 letters were $78 each year. in 2002, the renewal fees went to $78 for normal & prsonalized & I think $108 for vanity no notice was given with the price hike. in 2004, personalized plates went to $85 to renew. Again, no advance notice from our government. So, it costs me $7 a year extra to promote The Orb. Current law only allows letters first, numbers last for cars, numbers first and letters last for "B" trucks. Mixing of letters and numbers is currently not allowed here. ------------- back to the fun stuff -------------
Can't beat it. And when someone actually GETS it, it's even cooler. Hehehe
the best one for me was when Fil Le Gonidec GOT it at the Masquerade in Atlanta... Another Orb listee ran into me @ Coachella 2001 and told me how cool it was that he saw the plates in Atlanta a few weeks earlier. IL changed their plate design in 2002, so now the older style makes for great wall hanging. I have one in my music room. The other (as I've been told) is above a kitchen sink in a house near the Battersea powerstation. WELL worth it, hands down. Gavin __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
