Gentle Giant - it kinda rocks out at times, particularly the Power <snip> Camel - Mirage: seems like the best overall album so far. <snip> Caravan - not sure if I like all of it....kinda cheesy. liked <snip> Van Der Graaf Generator - kinda turned off by it all together. <snip> Amon Duul. Only heard a few old tunes, but pretty cool... <snip>
I have these all, on vinyl, from the time I was still collecting prog-rock thingies, the Harvest label especially and everything with a Hipgnosis cover 8-))) But as one of my cats pissed on my turntable and thus ruined it (well, it smell funny to say the least) I can't play these anymore...
Has anyone heard the Thrid Ear Band? I recall they did the soundtrack for the 1971 version of macBeth, but I cant find their shit online. They sound kinda ambient.
Ow yeah, the first track on that is very beautiful and kind like Pink Floyd's Julia Dreams, but the rest of the record was kinda boring, but as I said, it must have been 15 to 20 years ago since I listened to it. I suppose you already checked out the Steve Hillage tunes, but don't forget Roy Harper, Kevin Ayers (fantastic that bloke) and of course Robert Wyatt who made an excellent record this year. I remember I used to buy these 'underground' compilations (from Harvest mostly) and then try to find the artists that were represented there... And if you can find the American records of a Polish guy named Niemen (virtually impossible) and the Hare Krishna bunch of Sweet Smoke (Germans I guess), you'll be in for a treat...
