....And has anyone EVER figured out the source of KLF's "up and down the east coast, fat as a rat" sample? I remember doing quite an extensive search for this years ago, and came up empty-handed. Does anyone have any clues as to the source of it?
I would be willing to bet that they just simply were recording AM radio while in New York. If I'm not mistaken there is a much longer slice of the recording used in the Orb live '93 set that is on CR so LX may very well have recorded this. I've gotten some fabulous recordings of preachers this way. During my live shows I often tune an AM radio (it sounds really good with a hard flange on it) and have hit some pretty cool bits by chance. http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/669/669409.html http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/669/669497.html One of those two links prominently features religious broadcasts. Also my song "Secret Walkman" has some good AM radio stuff and if you caught my Sunday night show I caught some really strange parapsychology stuff. I don't know if it's as common in the rest of the world as here but you can hear these kinds of bizarre "Jesus is going to make you rich if you send me money" type evangelists all over the AM and even FM dial. AM broadcasts can be picked up at very long distances on clear nights but unlike shortwave they won't make it across the ocean. One night I heard (couldn't get a tape in the machine fast enough) Reverend Ike reading a letter from this guy who had lost his job, house, wife, car, dog, and cat (I'm not kidding you) and then sent his last five dollars to Reverend Ike and he got them all back (with a better job, house, and car). King James revised Book of Job kind of thing except it's Reverend Ike that'll do it for you and no one dies or gets leprosy. As usual I'll offer to trade a cd of random radio stuff for the same from any foreign country (or in the US if it's really cool). I've got hours and will gladly spend two or three editing them together. If I had the bandwidth I'd do it with an ftp server but I don't so I won't. It's faster to send the physical item by post. It would be interesting to know if lx did the piece? Chill out came out before Live 93. I always thought that it was from a promotional speaker from NY on how to get rich, like Tim Robins....
