Re: [Orb] OOPA for everyone and a Floyd treat
Thanks for the track Marco Marc....... I like it....very ambient. I like it when they go in this direction. I like pretty much all sides of the Orb, and each member that has come and gone, has done great work and some not as great. I like this whomever it is. Trippy. I had the same thought as Rich with a slight difference....I heard the "pre-show ambient tape" Pink Floyd made for the 1994 tour, which has longer pieces of "Cluster One" in it. I know we've talked about this ambient piece on here before but it was......what.....10 years ago....? For you newbies and those interested, during the tours from 1971 onward, Pink Floyd set up stacks of surround speakers in the audience. To test these speakers and the other stage systems, and as the crowd filed in, the crew would go into what they called "Environmental Mode". For the 1994 tour, I guess Gilmour and crew decided to mix another pre-show tape to play during this time The piece is very freaky, and I remember hearing weird noises in my high state over the hum of the crowd at the show, and I remember hearing one quite similar on the Momentary Lapse tour too. However, one time about twelve years ago, when I was really fucked up....in the back of an old friends' car I discovered the recording of it. We were listening to the cassette version of Pulse and then all of the sudden after a short silence, the speakers were giving off a strange noise indeed. "What the fuck is this?...it sounds cool...I think the tape is playing backwards". The person driving the car said..."Nah...it's Pink Floyd dude". "WHAT...I have every Pink Floyd album...this is not Floyd"......."Yeah it is".... He ejected the tape and sure enough it turned out that the pre-show ambient tape was placed on the cassette version of Pulse to fill the tape space of side four. I went and got that immediately. I've since recorded this piece over to my computer, and then burned it to a disc. I'd have to look for it in my stacks of burns. It's there, but where..???? Also, I think I may have found it a couple of times on slsk as well. Also, six and a half minutes of it is in surround sound, as the soundtrack to the photo gallery section of disc two on the DVD version of Pulse. Why they didn't include the whole 24 minute loop in surround for the main menu is beyond me??? Crap... I'm such a fucking Floyd head......or I used to be at least........they haven't done much lately eh? Happy hunting. Peace, Michael Thomas www.musicforlisteners.com P.S.
