Hi Y'all, I now feel suitably recovered from The Glade last weekend to finally throw a few comments into the melting pot. Anyone else on the list make it? It was a blinder, a mini-electro-boom-bangin'-Glasto-baby! 8) The weather was just perfect, not too hot in the day and warm nights so you could groove in just ya shirt'n'shorts all night till the sun came up again. The highlights for me were Hallucinogen (again!), Eat Static (again!) and without a doubt System 7 (yet again closing a festival in style) in what must now be Steve's definitive festival slot. I also caught a four piece band I hadn't heard of before called The Egg, hmmmm?!? 'A feast of chill-out,' says the guide! Hmmmm indeed!?! Anyone else heard of them? Don't bother IMHO. Kind like walking into the pub and finding your local four-piece banging out Orb and Underworld covers. I wonder where they got the inspiration for their name? But that was still OK compared to Squarepusher. Anything is OK compared to that guy. I did only catch the end of his set admittedly but he was well off on one. I have never seen anyone wank so furiously over an effects machine (soz guys, I'm not really in the know when it comes to all these fancy cross-fade-modulator-squeeze'n'pinch-boxette-anhilator names). The young chap next to me (showing my age now, I know) called it 'experimental!' Yeah, maybe back in the Sixties if yer name's Syd Barrett but now it's really just pretentious bullshit. The other thing worth mentioning is all the balloons that have suddenly popped up at the festivals in the UK this year. The biggest the hit this year ('scuze the pun) is definitely NO2. I don't know if the phenomena has sprung up elsewhere yet but if you find yourself sitting in a field in the sun toking away with a few thousand other people and you hear the occasional 'pssshhhhtttt' from over there, go and investigate it and thank me for it later. It'll probably be the best quid ever spent and the best minute of your life ;) All in all a fantastic festival that should be a permanent fixture in any trance, dance, electro, techno, ambient fan's year. My recommendations for next year; - More toilets please although I was impressed with their cleanliness over the weekend. Hats off to the crap-crew. - More water taps. - More festival. Ending at 6pm on the Sunday was such a disappointment this year. - More people but I have heard this is being worked on... - More, more, more... Encore!!!
