Luck has been with me the past two and a half months. I've scored both The Orb's "Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld" and Underworld's "Second Toughest In The Infants" on vinyl. Finally!, and they were priced like new releases just hitting the market. Question regarding "Ultraworld." There is a sticker on the cover stating "Special Classical Pressing" with the catalog number BLR DLP 5 below it. I'm wondering if this indicates a reissue? I don't see a reissue listed in Lazlo's or Rachel's discography. Or was this sticker on all the vinyl at the time of release? fvll

I love when that happens. Were they actually new, or just reasonably priced? Anyone seen Underworld's A Hundred Days Off on vinyl in the US yet?

I've seen them both with and without the sticker...but, I don't know what that means. It could be inconsistent stickering, or there could have been a reissue, with either one being the reissue. Not much help...I know. ;) Chris
Classical LPs used a better pressing process and vinyl in the old days so that they didnt have the pops and clicks and noise which could be present in Rock and Pop LPs.This issue was pressed using that process and was issued about the same time as the original. You definetely have the best pressing. It does appear in other early discographies like the U.K. Record Collector. According to the ad (2nd page) in the "flyer Urban Culture Guide" for October 2002 "Available on CD and double gatefold vinyl." There's also a Virgin megastore symbol on the bottom of the ad. But those of us who live in Southern Cali know they don't carry much vinyl if any. Wouldn't be surprised if Tower has it. I checked the Underworld section at Amoeba last Sunday and they didn't have it. I bought mine from the UK when it came out. And Chris "Ultraworld" was new, never played. "Second Toughest" is in great shape, but had been played. Six days till the Wiltern gig. fvll
hey folks... ...sorry if i've already missed the responses to this, but i've just got back from two weeks holiday and have 700+ emails to read! ;-) anyway, the initial release of ultraworld DID have the "classical pressing" sticker, which means that it was made with brand new, pristine, vinyl - rather than lower grade or recycled vinyl, which is the usual method. this is / was routinely done with classical vinyl releases, as "virgin" vinyl gives a better frequency response for higher / lower notes and therefore sounds better. i assume that, as ultraworld has the whole spectrum of sound frequencies within it, some bright spark / audiophile came up with the "classical pressing" idea. cheers, --- Smiley

Not heard the whole album, but here's some information... Meat Beat Manifesto's [Jack Dangers] new album "RUOK?" is out on Lakeshore Records and features a collaboration LX Patterson of the Orb. Tracklisting is below. As always, a great album from MBM, well worth checking out. Full length streaming versions of "Horn of Jerico" [featuring LX Patterson] and "What Does It All Mean?" are available at http://www.lakeshore-records.com/newreleases.htm -- MBM :: RUOK? (:/Run Recordings) Tracklisting: 01 Yuri 02 Spinning Round 03 Horn Of Jerico 04 What Does it All Mean 05 No Words Necessary 06 Intermission 07 Supersoul 08 Hankerchief Head 09 No Echo In Space 10 Dynamite Fresh 11 Retrograde 12 Happiness Supreme -- A good place to hear MBM tracks is on the Digital::Nimbus radio show on Friday nights/Saturday mornings between 12:00 and 3:00 on KUCI 88.9FM and streaming live in RA and MP3 formats direct from their webpage at www.kuci.org. Both the presenters, Pietrobot and Freakquency Modulater, are both huge MBM fans and almost always play a block of MBM and related tunes somewhere in the show. Check them out, they play other cool electronic music too, well worth a listen. I get up early some Saturday mornings especially to tune in live from the UK! :) ~Paul
Hey Kidz! I was at the Tino Corp (Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto) show here in SF on Sat night, and one of the opening bands was Ben Wa - a very dubby outfit that sounded seriously orb influenced. They used lots of similar sources for samples, and one of the bass lines sounded lifted from an orb tune, and sped up. It sounded so Orb inspired at times, the thought corssed my mind that perhaps someone on the list was involved with the group? They were selling the new Meat Beat album there, but I didn't pick it up. I'd love to hear other's opinions of it, especially the Alex track (though Seofon, a former listee, says "its amazing - Jack is back!" whatever that means). =) rachel ______________________ Rachel's Shrine to The Orb: http://www.migoto.com/orb
