This documentary video explores the humble beginnings of the track by 60s funk and soul band "The Winstons" called "Amen Brother" a b-side of their Grammy winning single "Color him Father", from which the ubiquitous 'Amen Break' was culled. The short video takes the viewer thru the journey of the sample through artists like 3rd bass to NWA to Squarepusher and Hrvatski, with solid commentary on the unlikely use of 6 seconds of sound from 1969 fueling everything from the UK Jungle scene to Corporate America's appropriation of hip-hop to sell us SUVs and Shampoo. I finally heard the whole thing yesterday (yeah that's right, I waited until street date, how novel!!!!), and I must say that I'm quite pleased with it and it's pretty much what I expected after hearing the Komfort EP. Sure it may be mostly a Thomas Fehlmann album, but I'm OK with that and I think it's actually a more interesting album than Lowflow which was kind of boring IMO. I'm glad to hear the Orb is finally moving forward rather than recycling the same rooster samples and dub basslines ad nauseum a la B&T, because I think we can all agree that it was pretty tired. It sounds much more contemporary and I think it fits in quite nicely in the kompakt catalog and along side artists in a similar vein such as Jan Jenelik and Ezekiel Honig. The only complaint I have is the inclusion of the three year old Cool Harbor, but other than that I think it's the best Orb release since Orblivion. It isn't U.F.Orb II, and that's Okie Dokie with me. Jason

'Orbsessions Volume 1' has the recycled rooster samples and etc.... There's a vocally track on there as well that's pretty awful too. 'Okie Dokie...' is a much better effort, and like you said, primarily a Fehlmann LP, while 'Orbsessions' is more of a Paterson LP.... np: [a]pendics.shuffle: Real People 12"
ok is growing on me and while somewhat new material, but i think orbsessions is better. i mean, they both have previously found tracks... who wants to repay for all that kompakt stuff? make the album yourself at home with ripped tracks. then again i like 'sail,' so i'm discredited thusly. :D On 11/8/05, max0666 <max0666@cox.net> wrote:

I like Orb sessions much more then Okie.. Okie sound dull and lifeless. I have heard better Fehlmann songs in the past. Orb sessions is more diverse, ok they are older songs, but i don't care.. gr, R

Ramon, you said it so perfectly. I think we should seriously engrave the words below on some sort of plaque. Thank you for not doing that damn backwards yoda talk, I will. On 11/9/05, Ramon Vink <ramonvink@hotmail.com> wrote:

I loooove the rooster that fires off the Japanese B&T with the great version of FaD. Wooooow, a great homage to the past while "fast forward to the future". T

Arrived a few weeks ago my Jap copy did. Familiar with most material I was. Songs are too short I feel. Prefer not Okie from Obsessions, pretty much same are both. Speak like Yoda the rest of the day I will. bk ----- Original Message ----- From: "JASON HICKS" <ikki1@msn.com> To: <orb@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 08, 2005 3:30 PM Subject: [Orb] Okie Dokie
