Just listening to Excel by 808 State, and just cant get past that this album was released when i was about 17, this has to be 808 State at the height of there powers, which albums do you think show one of your favorite bands at there zenith. For the Orbsters it has to be UFOrb does it? Its a hard one though. Your thoughts guys? Steve aka Goatboy
I think it's UFOrb if one were to 'define' The Orb. Personally I really like Orbvs though. It's more mature & thought out differently. On 5/8/07, Stephen Wright <steve@donsolaris.com> wrote:

I think Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld pretty much such the bar for the Orb...

Yeah, it's by far their most cohesive, intricate, flowing, deep, textured...and everything else Orb-y...journey. Absolutely perfect. Probably UFOrb (with the Blue Room/Assassin disc) is probably a good defining point-along with the huge tour that followed. Although Orbvs and its tour were certainly another peak. I would like to cheat and say Ultraworld/UFOrb/Orbvs/Orblivion combine to define the Orb. _____ From: orb-bounces+daverosbooth=rogers.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-bounces+daverosbooth=rogers.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of M L Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2007 2:17 PM To: What were the skies like when you were young? I agree with M L. OT was the best album by the Orb helped with Pomme Fritz serving as a 'taster' for things to come. Anyway, to get back on your off topic, topic ;-) two albums come to mind and they are: Fear of a Black Planet by Public Enemy and Blue Lines by Massive Attack 2 superb albums that I will probably take memories of to my grave. I heard Weezer's Buddy Holly on the radio the other day & it dawned on me just how old it is. The video for it was included on the install disc for Windows 95 when it first came out. I remember my friends & I thinking how cool it was to watch a music video on our computers.
Orb - Orbvs Terrarvm Rush - Vapor Trails, Moving Pictures (tie) Rolling Stones - hmmm, going with Sticky Fingers for now Husker Du - Warehouse: Songs and Stories (note, I am restricting my list to studio albums, as live ones tend to draw from more than one album, which wasn't how I read the question) Autechre - Amber Depeche Mode - Violator Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol 2 (honorable mention - On Remixes single, A303 ep) Cure - Wish Led Zeppelin I Primus - Frizzle Fry Meat Beat Manifesto - Satyricon Queen - A Night At the Opera Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues Yes - Fragile Devo - too tough to call, Are We Not Men or Freedom of Choice - as one of the best bands ever I had to at least get them on the list though T

Mark - R30 - good bttw (balls to the wall) album - kind of miss the tighter playing (cf Diff Stages) but really great energy and groove...secret is (of course) to play it loud - I really didn't like it till then.... Now, question for you - have you heard Snakes & Arrows and what do you think of it? Regards and sorry for OT but what the heck...list is pretty slow with any Orb stuff lately! T
