I just picked up REASON v2 which is a lot of fun, and not to badly priced for what it can do. For those that don't know, it's a standalone music station in a rack containing different kinds of synths, samplers, mixers, drum machines, effects units, and a sequencer. You can call up as many instruments as your computer can handle.
