Is this album meant to be listened to in surround? First I've heard about it.
And if it is, it definitely wasn't done in 5.1, unless there's a SACD/DVD that's been kept secret.
Exactly. While there can be some fleeting novelty in playing a stereo recording through your A/V receiver's various surround modes, it's just not how it was meant to be heard. Too much stuff gets shoved into the center channel and you lose major stereo separation. Having said that, though, I'm a huge supporter of DVD-Audio and SACD. Why *isn't* the new Orb album available in 5.1? JG

It's possilbe it was mastered in Dolby Surround like FFWD was. I'll have to try it tonight.

I'd be a bigger proponent if I had a DVDA or SACD player. :) I wish more stuff was released in 5.1. I suppose there just aren't the amount of experienced engineers available to produce good mixes.
Surely its also the expense and relative lack of information or knowledge I thought DVDA was double vaginal double anal -- )) (( c[_] bLiP www.justablip.co.uk -----Original Message----- From: orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jeff Pitblado Sent: 17 June 2003 16:55 To: What were the skies like when you were young? For Immediate Release: bLIP RECORDS June 17th Press Contact: Jazz Winters @ bLiP Records (0)208 682 4545 mail@justablip.co.uk WTF? :The Madonna Remix Project This album was triggered by a small sound byte of speech left by Madonna as a decoy to frustrate users sharing her songs via Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks on the internet. Any holes a goal in this riotous, wondrous, fairy tale journey through 14.5 tracks of deep anal hilarity. As a collective of artists we have no particular beef with or even interest in Madonna herself. There are several reasons why we made this album: 1) To protest against chilling laws such as the DMCA which erode our human rights to freedom of speech. 2) To illustrate how a sample of music can be transformed and used in a beautiful and creative way. 3) To have a corking good chuckle to ourselves. At the beginning of this album we had clear intent to make a serious protest record, but we got bored halfway through and started being silly. Sorry bout that. We hope it's clear on listening to the album that the aim of the project really is to have fun, raise awareness and to make good music. Even if you are not familiar with copyright debates, or have no interest in digital rights, the album is accessible and enjoyable to listen to - as long as you are not easily offended by the word 'fuck'. Mind you her voice does get on yer tits after a while. Well, if you don't like it, you know what you can do innit.. You can have it for nothing anyway stop moaning.. )) (( c[_] bLiP www.justablip.co.uk

These are great, I paticularly like Cartmanns "yeah whatever you fat bitch" in the 'Suck Or fuck' track, cracked me up!
That is quite amazing.... That is my worst bit of the album I was even thinking of mentioning it to the composer (and trying to remove it) Because she is slightly plumpish and calling madonna a fat cow When you are not exactly a rake yourself is a bit odd But then I thought I better not mention it -- )) (( c[_] bLiP www.justablip.co.uk -----Original Message----- From: orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Phil Blake Sent: 18 June 2003 09:45 To: What were the skies like when you were young? Alright guys, back to this surround thing for a mo. Just got home and got the CD on. God, those vocals!!! Anyhow, the CD is definitely not 5.1 but listening through my ol' Dolby Pro-Logic amp the rears are filled beautifully so I'd vouch that this is Dolby Surround as Jeff said earlier. How would this play out on a 5.1 system? Would it know and drive the rears properly? As for the CD, np: Green Ginger, niceeeeeeeeee 8) Billy Tweezer Fetish wrote:

Sorry Folks, I am not a huge audiophile, but damnit I know good sound. That's why I like the orb innit. I should have been less specific. It sounds good. I like it. I was happy with the album. :) Didn't mean to sound like a dumb shit and get my comment shoved back in my face. But hey, that's what this list is about too innit. Make one mistake and you sure as shit know. "if it is, it definitely wasn't done in 5.1, unless there's a SACD/DVD that's been kept secret until now." AND "While there can be some fleeting novelty in playing a stereo recording through your A/V receiver's various surround modes, it's just not how it was meant to be heard." We all have our opinions. We are free to express them. If you would like to educate the ignorant, please go into more detail and technical information to bring us up to speed with the latest audio technologies. I would like to know what true 5.1 is. I just recently upgraded from a "jam box" to a digital (gee, I hope that is the correct term) receiver and dvd/cd changer. I have listened to many orb albums with my new system and B&T struck me as one of the best separated / layered / whatever you call it. I had no clue that FFWD was good in surround or false surround or whatever. I have yet to listen to it on the new system. Peace Sorry for the rant. I would really like to know the proper settings for listening to my Orb CDs.
