hey folks, just returned home from indian food. wanted to mention that, upon sitting down, i heard a flute in the restaurant's music that turned out to be sampled in Promis off Cydonia. (that flute was always the best part of the song, for me at least.) anyway, i asked who it was again and again and finally they said it was Ravi Shankar. Sorry i couldn't get an album or song name, but in any case the flute sounds better in Promis than it does in it's original recording. as usual!! that's all. happy new year. michael
Sorry about double posts Ravi shanker is a sitar player Its extremely unlikely he was playing the flute ! Hari Prasad is an awesome Indian flute player Probably the best flautist in the world.. Think Carlsberg.... What a shame we're still in the culture Of blatant sample nicking without creativity Surely things should have advanced a bit beyond that now.. Anyone in PDX want to get together and make music? I'm really getting into the Cubase thing- I drum, and can play fretless bass like Jaco (or Jah). Been making some music recently, sort of *ORB* meets Zoviet*FRance meets Curd Duca, if that means anything. Drop me a line. elliott ===== **********compassionat.net**********

I personally approve of blatant sampling, the reason being that there are many pieces of music that I have discovered through samples that I otherwise wouldn't have come across. In a lot of cases types of music that I otherwise wouldn't have usually listened to e.g. Classical, or in this case Indian. I've a few albums and stuff now that I've bought based on just hearing a sample. Obviously it's good to be creative with samples and change them into something new and different but a lot of the time that means that they're changed beyond recognition and you miss out on discovering and enjoying the original piece. Phil.
maybe someone was playing the flute with him....? Hey Kris, on the topic of sampling, do you like DJ Shadow at all? "Endtroducing"? --- Dj Bidet <thrash@btclick.com> wrote:
