Saw MBM with opening act Consolidated back in '91 or '92 in NYC at the Limelight. Classic show unfortunately made even more memorable by the fact that my car got towed during the show. In fact, an entire BLOCK of cars were towed. I thought I was going mad until a few others from the gig showed up searching for their vehicles on the same block. Be well. Hully
I saw this tour in Chicago. I think the date was June 21st. Man....I'll never forget that show because it was the second time I really felt the effects of a certain herbal substance. I swear I saw some kids in the back of a station wagon eating Tide (the laundry detergent) on the way to the show. Saw MBM again in 96 with LX Djing and I think Sun Electric played too. I think there is a recording of this show floating around. If anyone has that and would like to trade please email me!! Can't wait to see them again next week in Chicago. -matt

I saw them twice before: once in Santa Monica, I was at E3, (the Electronic Entertainment Exposition - video game show and this girl came up and handed me tickets for MBM & EBN. I also saw them at the American Legion Hall in Hollywood which despite the name is a great venue. They played with Loop Guru and that show was just one of the greatest, most awe inspiring events of my young life at the time. My friend and I did not stop dancing from the second Loop Guru came on until the second Meat Beat ended and if I recall Jason Bentley did a DJ set somewhere in there. nope. The opener was Atmospheric Audiochair @ Metro August 11, 1996. LX was there though. I haven't found a tape of the MBM set from this show, but one of LX (albeit poor quality) exsists. Sun Electric opened for the Orb @ Metro on July 19, 1997 (hottest show I ever attended; way oversold the venue)

Yeah, you're right - damn memory- guess I'm getting old! I actually never knew the name of the opening act in 96 - thanks for that bit of info! It was very hot in the Metro for that show in 1997. I was back by the bar alternating between beer and water. -matt
Whatever you do, don't go to the Milwaukee show. The Rave is crap. WORST MUSIC VENUE EVER. I hate that place, for its management takes advantage of local bands & concertgoers and treats music solely as a business, not as an art. Gavin --- bobby/stiff matt <slugdub@gmail.com> wrote:

I tend to agree with Gavin. I've only been to the Rave once to see Ween and dealing with their staff wasn't pleasant. They have the most insanse security I've ever experienced. It was worse than an airport. Great show though... -matt

I'm trying to bribe some people into going to MBM tonight. What should I say? What are the best selling points to those introductory Meat Beaters?
"If you like music attendance is mandatory." T Other good selling points - incredible videos, it's got a beat and you can dance to it

Holy Sh** Folks!! This was me and my buddy's first MBM experience and it was very intense. Towards the end I was almost sorta getting overstimulated, but I can definately see the Orb comparisons as well as the significance of this band. The beats and the drums reminded me of some improvised drum circle that just happened to be put down as tracks. We were looking right down ontop of all their equipment, even though we didn't understand much (I saw DVD turntables and a half dozen apples) My buddy fired up his cell phone with bluetooth and was just seeing who was in the bar, but suddenly 'Jack Dangers Power B' and some other guy's comp showed up. During Dub Trio he was sending him messages that were popping up on his screen. Pretty funny. Great time.. I'd do it again.. but this time no White Castles afterward. Yeah.. ha ha. Actually, it wasn't during the set. It was previous (during Dub Trio), but we could see his screensaver stopping. I guess they get bluejacq'd alot, because they must use it to communicate during the show. How is does the DVD compare to the live show? I suppose much of that sampling is copyrighted or?? Also, I think it was Ben Stokes's birthday last night. Whoever the DVD turntablist is.. I think thats him.
