Artists similar to the Orb (was RE: [Orb] Fireman ( McCartney & Y outh..))
May be a bad subject, tag, but this is a stream of conscience kind of question: If I like the orb, and I do, what other artists/bands would I like? kr, dcdawson -----Original Message----- From: Dan Kelly [mailto:dp.kelly@comcast.net] Sent: Monday, May 13, 2002 7:15 PM To: orb@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Orb] Fireman ( McCartney & Youth..) A bit OT but anyway; With many thanks to the other members of this list who have already steered me in the direction of a number of other quality albums/artists, here is my pick; -System 7 (obvious. Alex collaborates with them occasionally and there is a great archive on groovetech.com with Alex and Steve Hillage. Can't wait to see them at Glastonbury) -Shpongle (first album outstandingly good, second not quite as slick) -Hybrid (lots of remix) -KLF ('Chill Out' of course) -Blue Jam - Series on Radio1 (as in Chris Morris (of Brasseye fame). Most likely on an FTP somewhere. If not and anyone wants to host the first three series in RA format (medium quality sound) then let me know and I'll upload or burn onto a disk. BTW - I only have the first 10 minutes of the banned episode 6, series 1. Does anyone have the rest?) Of course music can be a highly personal thing and some days even some Orb stuff clashes with my mood (but not very often I'm glad to say). I could go on to mention Underworld, Eat Static, Orbital, Leftfield (now sadly no more but two great albums), Ozric Tentacles, any Sasha & Digweed compilation, etc, etc... Some of my favourite times at glastonbury have been system7 on the same billing as other great acts. I'll never forget seeing them, BancoDeGaia and Eat Static on one night. Or never remember it. Or something. It was good anyway. I think.

Try http://www.cookdnbombd.co.uk/ (i think that's spelt right) Most of his radio and TV shows are there for download.

All great bands, but not very similar to the Orb IMHO. They do seem to appeal to similar fan bases, but I think that's just a general appreciation of decent music rather than that they're like the Orb. jon -- Please do not use this document as toilet tissue
OT. Sorry. It's:- http://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/ They were on there, but were taken off due to legal troubles. You can find most of the stuff on Audio Galaxy or similar. Blue Jam is still available in ver shops so to speak. Good to see the Paedo special on last night, and that Brass Eye is finally getting a release on VHS/DVD. NP: Fabric Live - DJ Hype.
Hi folks, I really like the track with LX Paterson on System 7- 7th wave, it´s brilliant clear everything , besides I like the LFO-Sounds and LX Scratches (hep!) and the wonderful guitar-play by Steve Hillage, one of their best tracks ever, but the other stuff on it is too much trance in my opinion, and there´s that guy called Tsuyoshi Suzuki, evrything too technical I think, I like it classical... which is the paterson track? I've only got it on CDR promo, with no sleevenotes

I really like the harder stuff on 7th wave, it's one of my favourite albums recently, in fact I'm listening to it right now :) -- "He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. You might also try going back into dub--the Scientist, King Tubby, Lee "Scratch" Perry, etc. The whole verseless-chorusless bit that the Orb go in for shows up in dub as well, that sort of floaty structure with the odd bit of eartickle. Simon At 08:53 AM 5/14/02 -0400, you wrote:
