Hello,
I am in the process of collecting setlists of live orb performances to add to the etree database. If you are not familiar with etree, it is a database of performances by trade friendly artists. Their site is at:
Etree is normally associated with "jambands" like the grateful dead (due to their liberal recording and trading policy), but etree has listings for all types of bands in every genre of music. There are literally thousands of bands currently in their database. In order for lossless shn or flac data to be added to this database the people who run etree need to know for sure that a band is trader friendly. This keeps the RIAA off their back and lets them operate their site without fear of litigation. No money ever changes hands in etree trades and they are done purely for the love of music. Their FAQ explains what they are all about better than I can here.
I know that the rule of thumb around here it that live shows and out of print material are okay to trade but I was hoping that there was an offical statement from LX or his managament to this affect. Is anyone on this list is in a position to ask LX about the orb's offical trading policy and get a statement from him? I am a rabid orb fan and want to be able to spread their live shows far and wide. However, I want to do this in a manner that abides by the wishes of the orb.
I have dug around in the archives and found some statements that seem to support the fact that trading live shows is acceptable to the orb but was hoping for a definitive statement. If you'd prefer not to post to the list about this, you can contact me offlist or contact one of the administrator of etree directly, Diana Hamilton at hamilton@umbc.edu
Thanks for your help.
regards,
matt
