We're all thieves in the eyes of the record industry. We should be paying royalties to them each and every time we HEAR any part of a recording. As a matter of a fact, they would charge us royalties for singing in the goddamned shower if they could! "You were singing the chorus from 'Dancing Queen' while washing your gonads last week. That will be $.99, please." They would charge you directly every time you turn on the radio (you're stealing because you didn't PAY!!!) or hear a song in the grocery store if they could. After B&T I'm not even going to bother to "illegally download" anything new from the "Orb" until I hear directly from the mouths of you guys that whatever it is is worth spending money on. There is so much out there by other, smaller artists that is so far superior to B&T that if I'm going to give a percent to an artist, I'd rather it be them. I'll buy a new Amon Tobin (or any NinjaTune artist for that matter) because I'm pretty sure I'll like most if not all of it, but I'm not even going to waste my bandwidth on downloading a new "Orb" album unless it gets rave reviews. Why be dissappointed? I know I will be. If I do download a new "Orb" album and like it (hey, I liked everything up through Cydonia so I'm really not all that picky) then I'll go buy it. If I don't like it I'll delete it after a few goes. I guess in the case of a new "Orb" release the industry really doesn't want us to download it for free since it's going to suck and we won't buy it. Good albums that are downloaded sell more copies than normal. But the Industry doesn't want to be bothered with quality, they just want quantity. I'm going to use quotes around the name "Orb" until they put out something good. Until then I consider them to be imposters.
Well, I quite Orbsessions, although "Okie Dokie..." sounds a bit flat to me - nothing really grabs me (apart from, possibly, "Cool Harbour" - which was on one of the Kompakt 12"'s anyway), although that hasn't stopped me from ordering the Japanese release (with the extra track). Of all the recent releases, I would recommend System 7's new ambient album "Mirror System" - that is very mellow, ambient, but not dull (IMHO). Hopefully, the forthcoming MadOrb and Transit Kings (although Jimmy Cauty is no longer with them) will provide a much needed relief! With regards to other artists, The new Boards Of Canada album is very nice, and Ulrich Schnauss is reissuing his "Far Away Trains..." album in the US (with a bonus CD), so looking forward to that one too. -----Original Message----- On Behalf Of Alan Evil (lists) We're all thieves in the eyes of the record industry. LX doesn't owe you anything.
er ... badorb went bust owing people money but I see your point. At one point I'd have said I owed the Orb (not just LX) for all the ejoyment I'd had from their records and shows, but given LX's hissy fits at some shows and the quality of some (not all) recent material, I reckon we're quits now. j

Well that's another matter, I for one got everything I ever ordered from Badorb, but I may have just been lucky. But there's no doubt that Badorb was a major pain for everyone involved, LX included, I'm sure he wishes it had gone differently and I doubt he made any money off of the whole mess.

See that's cool, if you don't dig the Orb anymore that's fine and totally your right not to buy their albums. I'm just a little fed up with people dissing Okie Dokie because it isn't U.F.Orb or something. Personally I liked the Komfort E.P., and I'm glad to hear LX taking the music in a new direction. I think a big part of why Cydonia and especially B&T fall short of expectations was because they sounded like poor imitations of past Orb. I think LX finally recognizes this too, and that's why he and Fehlmann are taking the music in a new direction, dig it or not it's a good thing people!! After all is said and done it's LX's thing and we all just along for the ride, unless it's your time to get off, which is probably I good idea for some of you that are fed up with the whole scene. But as for myself I'm not done with the Orb just yet. :)
