Re: [Orb] Mickey Mars RULES =P
For real. Mickey Mars is shite- and I can't in my wildest imagination imagine Roni Size et al. admitting to it being D&B. D&B almost always has phat beats and basslines- hence the name- Micky Mars is lacking in both- it also sounds like Deep Forest. I reckon those of you out there that like it, wear tie-die trousers- come on, admit it, ya space headz! Worst track by the Orb- No Fun remix- woke up to Peel Sesh OOBE today- nice- then I am bombarded by music my dad used to be in to- I have hence forth been angry all day. Harry

Frankly, I think the 7" edit is one of the most interesting pieces of drum n' bass i've heard (that would be the ding changa-din-jang-ga rhythm)...
Heh, you must not have heard too much drum n bass in your time. . .
maybe you're all just house-heads with no space for hardstep in your musical cache =P....man, you probably don't like the ganja kru remix of "toxygene" either (which is brilliant)
Nope, I'm no house head, in fact I'm obsessed with breakbeats. I simply find the track annoying, what with the recycled Enigma sample and all. While I wouldnt call the ganja kru remix of "toxygene" brilliant, it aint too shabby. Check out the ganja kru remix of the Beastie Boys "Negotiation Limerick File" for an even better remix job.
To each their own though, how about this for a survey if Mickey Mars aint it, what do you all think the lamest Orb track ever is? (or are we all so LX-struck that we love anything he has ever been involved with?)
"We're Pastie to Be Grill You" gets my vote! ;P ----- Original Message ----- From: Andrew Sturgess Sent: Tuesday, August 27, 2002 1:35 AM To: orb@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: [Orb] Mickey Mars RULES =P
Yeah. I believe it's one of 5, and frankly, it's shit.
Mickey Mars also turned up on the u.f.off compilation in two different mix forms. The only good thing about it is that strutty rhythm section (that sort of ding changa-din-jang-ga rhythm), otherwise it's quite the Orb's musical nadir.
why is everyone so down on mickey mars?? is it the sorta-cheezy indian chants (as if orb never used cheezy vocal samples b4..ha!) ??

i think one of many tracks off "Cydonia" are a bit closer to their "musical nadir" if you're gonna use that term...
€€€ This is completely unrelated, but I just got back from seeing Ben Simms spinning some hard/tribal techno on 3 decks (wow!)... does he have any mixes avaiable to the public on CD or mp3 bootlegs floating around? €€€

ha. it's funny because Roni Size has made some SHITE Drum n Bass himself - you hear reprazent's last album??? complete shite, except for snapshot and the the rahzel track... the other stuff is cheezy as hell. "No Fun" is a fun track. I say "Fuck All Ya'll" who are still down on Mickey Mars, with a friendly smile. -andrew
I don't really think Roni Size could be a single reference point for DNB...neither could Mickey Mars ;-) The last LP had lame moments, the first one was very good and he has released some excellent tuneage in the past [see just about anything he released on V records]. I'm trying to up it to someone's FTP site now, so you can all judge for yerselves.......
