Dance and electronic aside, many US bands get airplay in the UK and Europe first. I assume this is because DJs or program directors can play what sounds good rather than going through all the bureaucracy that US stations do. Clear channel stations are the worst of all. I can't tell you how many US bands I heard about because they were getting heavy airplay on UK and European charts 1-2 years before anyone ever heard of them in the US. Here are a few that I can remember off the top of my head The Strokes, The White Stripes, Fischerspooner, The Donnas "There is no greater joy than soaring high on the wings of your dreams, except maybe the joy of watching a dreamer who has nowhere to land but in the ocean of reality."
