Re: [Orb] Drugs and First Orb Experience and Other Ramblings
I didn't know about a double-disc of the album. I got the 40 minute blue room mix on a special cd single. I kind of had to insist the HMV guy look for it, like they only had a small number and he wanted them all for himself. It fit into the double cd single case of the other blue room single version - is that what you're talking about?
Nope. Before Island re-released the U.F.Orb album, big life issued a limited edition copy which contained a 40 minute blue room cd along with the album itself in one single jewel case. I have one, and I got it signed by lx last time I saw him DJ. Now I need Jah Wobble, Youth, and a few others and I can die a happy man ;) _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. interesting. I never saw that, and I was way, way into that album. I saw a US import vinyl in sealed thick opaque rubbery plastic sleeve - you'd have had to make a nasty cut in it to get the vinyl and I wondered if I would have got my money's worth, or would i have just kept it sealed. I wonder if the US vinyl was better and hence worth a lot of money. My UK vinyl copy was always pretty disappointing - for example the 93 Live double set was way chunkier. On the other hand, sound quality isn't always important. I remember one time steaming along the M62 south of Barrow-in-Furness having just gotten off a nuclear submarine (and that's a whole 'nother story), I was doing 100mph and had UFOrb cranking on the stereo in the hire car - wicked. Went past a traffic cop parked in one of those special police cut-outs. He didn't even blink. I like to think he heard the music and decided not to ruin it. I think the only time I ever got a cd signed, was my limited edition digipack of Arise by Sepultura which I got signed by all four brazilian thrashers. Ok, so I'm a little eclectic... -- Chris Morgan <cm at mihalis.net> http://www.mihalis.net Temp sig. - Enquire within
so, what does "limited edition" mean? i bought this when it came out and up until now thought that all the releases of U.F.Orb had the 2nd disk. Rachel??? dj monolith --- Ben May <hal8999_@hotmail.com> wrote:

It is fairly rare nowadays - not too many of them around. Plus, it has the exclusive to CD Frank DeWulf remix. The bonus CD wasn't included with the Island reissues, and was also never released in the UK. HTH, Nick ;-)

hey kidz! i don't know exactly how "limited" the 2 disc UF Orb is, but its pretty rare to come across these days. (let's say, less rare than Orbscure Tracks, but definitely not a standard version) IIRC, the Blue Room version was the first released, but this disc wasn't intended to be a freebie by the boys (i mean, sheesh, its pretty much an EP isn't it?), so following pressings are only the single disc. any used record store should have plenty of copies of the single disc version, whereas the 2 disc is much harder (and more expensive) to come by, in my experience. any trainspotter out there (ernie?) have more details info? =) rachel ------------------------------------ Rachel's Orb Discography http://www.migoto.com/orb
not sure how many either. i gave one as a present to a very cool substitute teacher when i was a senior. still sealed in the long box. i did manage to get a Japanese promo "sample" edition a while back. I guess nice gestures do pay off! :) rene "-> rachel" <rachel@migoto.com> wrote:hey kidz! i don't know exactly how "limited" the 2 disc UF Orb is, but its pretty rare to come across these days. Not released in the UK is correct. This was a US issue only. Wasn't it issued at like about three "UFOrb" listening parties one being in San Diego, and a couple of other cities? Also I seem to remember something about the extra disc coming with copies of the initial release. Since it wasn't exactly a best seller at the time, that may not be that many copies. Many US labels trying to create interest in a band issue limited initial release two disc sets (album + EP). I think Lazlo had a post ages ago with all the variations on this set, but couldn't find it at the moment. fvll

I've been called out. :) As an old-timer, I remember that all of the original pressings of the UF Orb CD came with the second disc. You could probably do some research in the music magazines from back then to verify this, as I remember there being sctual advertising. As someone else pointed out, this was and is a fairly common practice to try and get more copies of an album to sell quickly. It was only after that initial pressing sold out that the single disc versions began to surface. For years the 2 disc versions were plentiful and easy to come by, often selling in the used places for the same price as the single disc versions because they didn't even know there was a second disc in there. I still have a small stash of these somewhere, cause I'd buy 'em up when I found 'em at a really good price. :) The Listening Excursions CDs came out at about the same time and featured the same tracklistings as the bonus disc. Though it was never released in the UK, they got the original 39:58 CD single that the Yanks never got, as well as the re-issue with early copies of the UF Off video. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Yes, but apparently not in Britain. I think I would have noticed, seeing as I got Adventures... before UFOrb came out, was keenly awaiting it and got it on vinyl as well as cd. Hell, I've got a double-cd of Badmotorfinger, Boss Drum, Songs for the Deaf several other albums where the extra was first batch only. But I lived in Britain in those days and didn't see a double cd. If the extra disc only has the 40 minutes blue room, then I guess I can live without it :0 -- Chris Morgan <cm at mihalis.net> http://www.mihalis.net Temp sig. - Enquire within
From Lazlo's discog (also on Rachel's site):
CD: 1992 US (Big Life/Mercury; 314 513749-2) [3 Nov 92; ltd w/bonus CD] [CD#1: U.F.Orb] 12:51 O.O.B.E. 6:08 U.F.Orb 17:34 Blue Room 15:00 Towers of Dub 10:27 Close Encounters 11:06 Majestic 0:49 Sticky End [CD#2 (CDP 804):] 3:09 Blue Room (edit) 7:37 Blue Room (frank de wulf remix) 15:14 Assassin (oasis of rhythms mix) 40:00 Blue Room (full length) Damn good extra CD, IMHO - glad I got it when I could! If you've got a couple spare, then there's probably several people on this list who haven't got one? l8rs, Nick ;-)
