What a great night!
Agreed. Since we were running a bit late I didn't make it to the Pub On The Park to try and meet anyone, so we started the night in a grubby little pub near the ocean, listening to karaoke, which I found highly amusing due to the extra mushrooms I'd had on my pizza earlier. We got there to catch the end of Loophead's set, which I was gutted about as they'd been wicked at Glastonbury. I caught Firefly, which I was happy about - great tune. I think One True Parker was on next, playing some nice hard d'n'b. Prayer box were excellent - heavy and bassy, with MCs and scratching filling in the sound. I think DJ Lewis played next, then Multiverse came on. After that I think it was DJ Lewis again, then the Orb at about twenty to one. After that we went to sit upstairs for a bit, and a room full of people sang happy birthday to my sister, which was nice. Not sure she knew what to make of it really, being as trolleyed as the rest of us. I missed the next set after the Orb, then I think it was a long set from DJ Lewis, then LX did a set for a while, then the orb came back on. Something like that anyway. By the end my brain had shut down and it was just my limbs that were still working, driven by the bass that had been THUMPING all night :) I loved both the orb sets, the toxygene/eminem mix was wicked and all the classics were, well, classic. Can anyone fill me in on who the various collaborators were? Simon Phillips is the guy who's also Prayerbox, one of the other guys was in Multiverse so must be witchman, right? Who was playing the live bass? Who were the MCs? Every other time I've seen the Orb I've not really been close enough to make out who anyone is, and only know LX and the system7s by sight, so cheers to anyone who can put names to the faces. The merchandise stall had most of the TOGs except the loophead "hoover-mouse" - which was a shame as that's my favourite and it got chewed up in the washing machine when i got back form glastonbury :( The guy on the stall said that the BOB14s are being sent out, so let's they arrive soon. That's the first time I've been to Ocean, and was pleasantly impressed. Great purpose-built clubbing venue, with friendly staff, which is always nice. Anyone know if the telegraph gig is still on? It wasn't listed on badorb.com last time I looked, and I forgot to ask anyone on saturday. Right, back to work...
