Dude, gotta take this to the Orb forvm...I'm a big prog rock fan. But here's my top ten (In no particular order): 1. King Crimson - Red Any of the KC albums from this line up are money...Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black 2. Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway I think Eno helped out with this one. One of the most sophisticated and bizarre concept double-albums. Tony Banks is underrated as an electronic music influence. 3. Gong - You 4. Can - Tago mago OR Future Days 5. Fripp and Eno - No Pussyfooting or Evening Star 6. Soft machine - Third The orb needs to do a remix of these guys 7. Neu! - 2 8. Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells 9. Pink Floyd - Take yer pick...I like PF at Pompeii on DVD 10. Yes - Time and a Word/Close to the Edge Most people I know hate Yes, and have nothing to do with the Orb, but I still think they were awesome. The Bill Bruford/Chris Squire rhythm section is the shit. Yer Pal, Gel-Sol www.gel-sol.com
Orb has shown me the value of our prog rock ancestors, as well as though of current fame. If the baxter colorado clip is really from a yello magic orchestra remix then I am very curious about checking them out, i heard that someone from them Ryuichi Sakamoto or Takihahuso or whoever has been putting out recent solo albums as well as movie music.
My question is who should I explore 1st. Can, or Gong or.... I don't know what to go after for old albums. I am sorta chickenshit to buy older CD's, especially since they probably were recorded for vinyl release anyhow. What are the listees top recommendations for semi-orb related albums prior to 1980 or so. A top 10 would be nice, or something to help me sort through the rubbish.
