sorry, can't help you here. :( you must play the west coast sometime! --- gel-sol@gel-sol.com wrote:
So anyways, I been lookin for some new tunes so I start downloading some "B-Prog." I pretty much have heard everything by the big prog bands....genesis, yes, king crimson, etc., and I also listen to bands like gong, soft machine and can.
Do any of you guys listen to the more obscure stuff? Some of it seems obscure to me, but from what I read some of these bands were big in their home countries.
So far I have liked:
Gentle Giant - it kinda rocks out at times, particularly the Power and the Glory stuff...
Camel - Mirage: seems like the best overall album so far. slowly getting into it.
Caravan - not sure if I like all of it....kinda cheesy. liked some of the tunes on the Gray & Pink album
Van Der Graaf Generator - kinda turned off by it all together. Something really gei about it.
Amon Duul. Only heard a few old tunes, but pretty cool...pretty rockin so far.
I've also heard some Hawkwind which was pretty cool too. I do like early 70's metal like deep purple and thin lizzy.
Has anyone heard the Thrid Ear Band? I recall they did the soundtrack for the 1971 version of macBeth, but I cant find their shit online. They sound kinda ambient.
If anyone can reccommend some good 70's ambient or electronic music, that would be cool too...my friend played me something by a group called "Mother Mallard" and it was really awesome....I mean sure I was shroomin' my balls off, but...i dont have a point.
And just to make this topic Orb-related, I want everyone to know that I would like to open up for the Orb when they come to washington DC (any other time is fine too), so if you have any special magic powers that might make this a reality let me know. I dont think it would be too ridiculous to have a well-mannered gentleman such as myself help the get the night started right.
Seriously, this is yer pal Gel-Sol...help a brother out.
