That's correct. AC3 on laserdisc though I think became available end of 80's early 90's and DTS if I recall about 1996. Pretty advanced for back then. John W

Video discs though, what are they? Someone did remember em.. They are different than laser discs then right? I remember they almost resembled vinyl. I swear those were the wierdest things, and I can't believe they had DTS and shit waaay back then.
I think you're talking about RCA Selectavision & related discs. They were available in the early 80s, well before DTS & Dolby Digital/AC3.
