"I guess you just gotta know the right people..."

i wish i knew the right people!

on that - are there high quality orb gigs out there?  been thru soulseek and back and have acquired a ton of good stuff from some very friendly listers but have to imagine there are real high quality live recordings that are much better than you average soulseek download.

on that (and here is where i go off topic...) why don't more bands release live material?  i don't necessarily mean in the form of a formal cd like live '93, but with the digital age and all why don't bands/labels post live gigs for purchase and download.  heck i would actually buy something off itunes if there were gigs posted there!

now i don't know a thing about the music industry (or making music for that matter..but i can crunch a mean spreadsheet!) but i would have to think there would be a market for this stuff.  have heard phish did something like this - let fans dl gigs straight from ttheir site..but not sure if that is true...not a phish fan.  also not a pearl jam fan but always loved the concept of their releasing a ton of their live shows to the masses.  if the orb did that i'd be first in line to hand over my cash for each and every gig - particularly know some money would be going back to the band!

one final question from the ignorant mass of one - is it illegal to dl concerts?  has been an ongoing discussion between me and my mates - have always logically thought since the material was never officially realeased it is not a violation of copywirte laws.  is this dilusional on my part?

just some thoughts that have been running thru my head for the last 12 months.
