Well - that's subjective. I don't believe there is anything 'correct' about a creative process. I usually interpret 're-mastering' as a process where a mastering engineer revisits the mix and draws out its subtleties (like Ramon mentioned) and cleans out the cluttered areas. The use of compression may have the engineers mark on it. I usually *expect* a better aural experience from a re-master. That's its purpose, isn't it (unless the previous master was badly done)?

Maybe the credits will show who mastered this version. I would think they'd be waving a flag saying who did it.

I guess the differences will lie in the very subtle regions. So that is a good thing i would think. It would be horrible if they had overdone their job and compressed the hell out of it (which is popular nowadays: to sound as hard as possible).
