American televisions use a different method to arrive at a color picture. PAL has more lines and uses a different combination of photon guns to create the picture. HDTV would take care of this except for the "regional" markers on DVD's that will prevent you from playing your DVD on a digital tv set-up in a different region. So best to get a video out on your computer.
