Yeah, I saw Donnie Darko Director's Cut in Time Square this weekend. I took a spontaneous trip to NYC and went drinking at Roxy Saturday night. I saw the 1pm showing, John ;) I thought the DC was more compelling as a whole; there were places where the first movie had holes that this movie filled in. I did NOT like the fact that the movie is supposedly set in 1988, and the family car is a fucking 1992 Ford Taurus wagon... and Donnie rides by a 93 Corolla at one point. Lame. Attention to detail makes or breaks a movie for me. The soundtrack was definitely good... I think it was a better mix this time around. The movie is definitely a sleeper, and definitely a cult movie. I'm not sure I completely understood the entire message, but then again, I'm not sure that was the intention of the director anyway. Anyone else? -Brian On Mon, 26 Jul 2004, John Wintemute wrote:
Saw the new "Director's Cut" of "Donnie Darko" Saturday night. It was almost a remix. The first song was moved to a different scene. The second song was different. Different chapters of the book "The Philosophy of Time Travel" by Roberta Sparrow were superimposed throughout. Some CG added. Several scenes were extended and a conversation between Donnie & his father was added. I need to see it again to decide which version I liked better. Did anyone else catch a viewing of this & have an opinion?
