actually, each label does their own encoding (or at least, now they do... initially, Apple probably did it for them). i know Six Degrees uses the master cd for their recordings.
This is true. Apple did their own recording until they determined the quality standards to which they wanted to adhere; from that, they've permitted each label to do its own encoding, provided the label meets those standards. Apple DOES check the quality before permitting the album to go on the iTunes Music Store. -Brian
