thought id post this for the other orbsters out there that ever find themselves stuck in on a satuarday night like me tonight and have nothing much to do! its just a bit of fun , a way listen to your orb recordings from another angle as it were - try phase canceling a stereo signal (my favorite audio effect)- any orb record will do - and youll find loads of intresting sounds hidden away in the background , for those interested in sampling - on certain tracks, individual sounds are seperated and you can nik them for your own music - im listening to fluffy clouds at the mome and the guitar is left on its own with a very slight amount of hi hat, everything else is removed- cool ay!! 2 ways to do it - both work very well - expensive way (easy way) some mixers have the option of phase reversing --pan both left and right of a stereo recording to one side,or centre (just aslong as they are at the same position)and flip the phase on either left or right, also make sure both levels on left and right are coming in at the exact same level ! you can add a slight reverb to make it sound more spacious ! a cheaper way : (but a little tricky) is to get your twin phono cable from the back of your cd player-> amp - cut it in half(arrg i hear you cry) - cut back the 'black' outer plasic from both the ends so you have a white(left) ,red(right) and eath (copper wire) -then cut back the plastic from the red and white cables on both ends -connect (by twisting the wires) the red of the cd end to the earth of the amp end, and the white of the cd end to the white(or red ) of the amp end as below : ___________white--------------white LEFT phono-------------------earth amplfier cd ___________red---------------- earth RIGHT phono------------------ earth this setup will make the signal come out of one speaker but its a mono signal anyway!(you can twist both the red an white on the amp end so it comes out both speakers) youll hear stuff you never knew was there ! for those that dont know its called phase cancelation it takes away (cancels) all that is pan'd in the middle of the mix-(when both left and right are at the same level) ie bass - drums vocals! - which are normaly paned central for example in molten love it totaly takes away the the filterd bongo drum (exept for the delay fx here n there) true the best sound out of that track but your left with strings, hihat and fx not the way the engineers intended you to hear their mix but its alot of fun to try .. plus you can always twist the wires back as they were - no harm done ! happy listenin john
